Ogun State Government has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the improved welfare of all participants at the ongoing National Sports Festival, NSF.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, in a statement through his Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Mr Kayode Akinmade described as regrettable the protest staged by some athletes representing the state at the ongoing National Sports Festival over delayed allowances.

Pointing out that the athletes acted out of impatience, as all necessary arrangements had been concluded for the payment of their allowances, the governor stated that the protest was inconsistent with the values and objectives the state upholds.

He noted that the payment of allowances had already commenced, with athletes receiving bank alerts as scheduled.

The athletes, in the early hours of Wednesday, staged a protest over the non-payment of their allowances.

The Chief Consultant on Media to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Mr Kayode Akinmade, has urged social commentators and other critical stakeholders to always cross check their facts before making comments on issues concerning the State.

Mr Akinmade was reacting to the allegation of local government allocation diversion levelled against Governor Dapo Abiodun by former Ijebu East local government, Mr Wale Adedayo.

Describing the allegation as baseless, unfounded and mindless, the media aide to the governor noted that people’s comments on recent issues relating to the state were majorly based on vague understanding and incomplete information, resulting in blunders and fallacies.

Mr Akinmade who claimed that Mr Adedayo was being used by certain people to score cheap and covert political points against Governor Abiodun, said the former council chairman goofed when he alleged zero allocation to local governments in the state since he was elected in 2021.

According to him, local government workers, primary school teachers, and traditional rulers get their salaries regularly, while pensioners also receive their pensions as , and when due, which punctured the claim of zero allocation.
