The Governor of Osun State, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola has charged operators of relaxation centres that they have a responsibility to support government in ensuring the security of lives and property in the State.

Mr Oyetola gave the charge at the Civic Engagement complex in Osogbo while addressing owners of relaxation spots  in the state.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, the Governor described owners of relaxation joints as critical stakeholders in the Security sector.

He pointed out that relaxation centres provided free access for patriotic citizens and criminally minded ones alike, hence, criminals could easily be harboured in such places without the knowledge of the owners as to the intention of the visitor.

The Governor remarked that it behoved on owners of relaxation outlets to be very vigilant and reports strange movements and suspicious faces to security men without considering patronage and profit.

Mr Oyetola took advantage of the event to advise the people to collect their voter cards and not sell same, while he also noted that the owners of relaxation centres were strategically placed to support INEC in voters education.

The Governor promised government’s support for them to boost their businesses and improve the contribution of the entertainment sector to the state’s economy.

Earlier, the President of the group in Osun State, Alhaji Kudus Olagunju told the Governor that excessive taxation was negatively affecting their businesses, urging the state to harmonise the tax payable by hospitality businesses.

Alhaji Olagunju pledged the association’s support for the Governor in his second term bid.

Another leader of the association, Mrs Rebecca Akinola appealed to the government to support those in the hospitality business with soft loan, as she lamented that they were being subjected to inhuman treatment by private sector lenders who imposed all manners of conditions on the facility given to them.

Osun government has launched a new feedback website for easy access to government and its programmes by the residents.

Speaking at the event, Special Adviser to the Governor on Civic Engagement, Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, said the website was designed to deepen and afford residents the opportunity of direct contact with the government and its activities through modern technology.

Mr Oyintiloye, who noted that the platform would further bridge the gaps between government and the people, said both residents and non-residents would also have the opportunity to express their opinion about government programmes and how it affects them.

He said the web platform was designed in a way that residents could drop their enquiry or complaints and also call the government whenever the need arose to the quick response dedicated lines and email address on it.

The Governor’s Adviser who noted that it was not possible for the government to reach out to all residents individually, however, said they could reach the government and in return, the government could reach them via the platform.

“The website is designed in such a way that people can drop their complaints and enquiries for government’s attention and can also call government in any of the quick response dedicated lines and email address provided on the platform.

“It will serve as a feedback mechanism between the government and the people in the areas of development as well as government policies and programmes.

Oyintiloye, who appreciated the governor for establishing the centre for Civic engagement which is in charge of the website, said it had been interfacing with the people across all social strata in a bid to promote social democratic ideals through inclusive and participatory governance.

He said the centre was also bridging the gap between government and the people, through which all social strata were organised and encouraged to take an active role in the policy formulation process.

He said since 2020 when the centre was created, it had been interfacing with the people across all social strata with a view to getting them involved in the governance process, feeling their pulse towards government policies and programmes.

He said the centre had also been able to engage the people of the state via its different programmes.

Mr Oyintiloye listed some of the programmes to include; Governor’s Family Meeting with informal groups, Community/ Rural Engagement, Engagement with Non-Indigenes, Market/ Park rally, among others.

He said the agency also held separate engagement programs with Farmers, women, youths, traditional councils/community leaders, trader unions, and religious bodies, among others.

“The agency had also been able to engage with non-Indigenous communities in the state to enhance inclusive governance and peaceful coexistence”, he said.

Oyintiloye also said that since its inception, more than 1000 communities had been visited by the officials of the centre across the state.

He said, “under Advocacy and Enlightenment, government”s policies and programme were propagated and feedback gotten from the people.

“Under this platform, market rally was held in about 50 markets, and over 200 faith-based organisations comprising of both Christian and Islamic religion were visited.

“50 Traditional leaders and Opinion moulders have been engaged with a view to feel their pulse about government activities as well as giving their elderly and statesmanly advice.

“What we are doing is to facilitate an open and more accountable leadership that builds citizens’ trust in our government.”

Governor of Osun State, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola has restated his commitment to engendering peaceful coexistence as well as security of lives and property in the state.

This he said informed his administration’s continued strengthening of the state security framework as well as continually strive to productively engage both indigenes and non-indigenes in the effort to ascertain sustainable peaceful coexistence.

The Governor made this known through his Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye during rural engagement to some communities and villages in Olaoluwa Southeast LCDA.

The Governor said concerted efforts had been hinged on fortifying the state security architecture through establishment of Joint Taskforce compromising of conventional security outfits, local hunters and the Osun Amotekun also known as Southwest Security Network Joint Taskforce to also complement the mainstream security agencies in nabbing crimes.

He said such commitment has again been demonstrated by the inauguration of 360 newly-recruited personnel into the state Amotekun Corps with the procurement of 20 security vehicles and several communication gadgets to support them in the discharge of their responsibility, as well as enlistment of 750 vigilantes in all local government areas to provide adequate intelligence on suspicious criminal activities so as to solidify the state security network.

Earlier in their remarks, the non-indigenes in the state threw their weight behind Oyetola’s administration for living up to its responsibility in ensuring security and peaceful coexistence in the state.

Mr. Ibrahim Muhammed who spoke during the event however, urged the government to continue to promote avenues for interactions among the various ethnic groups in the state to sustain the present harmonious relationship.
