Oyo State Government and Euro FMCG Universal Beverages Limited, Singapore, have entered into a partnership to develop the Oluyole Free Trade Zone.

The Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor, Mr Segun Ogunwuyi represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Professor Musibau Babatunde, stated this while handing over 500 hectares of land along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Oluyole Local Government Area, to Euro FMCG under the Public-Private Partnership arrangement.

According to Mr Ogunwuyi, the partnership aligned with the vision of the state to drive and expand the state’s economy as outlined in Governor ‘Seyi Makinde’s Roadmap to Sustainable Development Agenda (2023-2027).

He noted that the land for Oluyole Free Trade Zone was acquired during the last administration and that the Governor Makinde administration would clear all the accumulated and outstanding debts, thus providing the opportunity for the state to utilize the facility by making it possible for investors to take over the space for industrialization purposes.

Mr Ogunwuyi, while assuring the investors of maximum security and support of the state government to fast-track the project, warned land grabbers to steer clear of the area or face the full wrath of the law.

Earlier, the Director of Operations and Business Development, Euro FMCG Universal Beverages Limited, Mr Rajesh Koleti stated that the project which include warehouse, agricultural processing and logistics would create 5,000 direct jobs for residents of the state within the next 24 months.

Mr Koleti thanked Governor Makinde for his unwavering commitment to creating conducive environment for investors and ensuring the ease of doing business in the state.

Present at the event were the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr Williams Akin-Funmilayo; committee members of the Oluyole Free Trade Zone and In-House Counsel for Euro FMCG Universal Beverages Limited, Mr Akin Apara, among others.

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has re-appointed Mr Segun Ogunwuyi as the Chief of Staff, CoS.

The governor has also announced Mr. Sulaiman Olanrewaju of Nigerian Tribune as his new Chief Press Secretary, CPS.

He made the announcement shortly after adopting and signing the report of the Ogunwuyi-led transition committee held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s office, Secretariat, Ibadan. 

Mr Olanrewaju until his new appointment is the Group Business Editor of the Nigerian Tribune.

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has ordered the dissolution of the State Task Force on Waste Management.

The State Chairman, Transition and Inauguration Committee, Mr Segun Ogunwuyi, who disclosed this in a statement, said the dissolution is with immediate effect.

According to the statement, the Task Force is by this directive required to officially hand over and submit all government properties to the Transition & Inauguration Committee.

The statement adds that Governor Makinde appreciated members of the task force for their tremendous contributions to the development of the State.

Oyo state government has announced a 15 -man inauguration and transition committee to coordinate and oversee necessary arrangement for the smooth transition of the current administration into its second term.

The state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun made this known while briefing journalists after an executive council meeting.

He said the committee would be chaired by the Chief of Staff, Mr Segun Ogunwuyi while Special Assitant on Special Duties,Miss. Lolade Ajibola is the secretary.

Also, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Oyelowo Oyewo during the briefing made it known that the executive council has granted approval for the presentation of 4 bills and 1 amendment to the state house of assembly

He explained that the amendment bill would seek to grant autonomy to the Governor on section 28, subsection 1 of the Oyo state chiefs law to present beaded crowns and coronets without recourse to the traditional council.

Professor Oyewo said other bills to be harmonized were environment bill, real property protection bill, public schools protection bill and Oyo rural access road agency bill to complement Rural Access and Mobile Project

Speaking further on the decision of the executive council, Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Professor Daud Sangodoyin also explained that the council re-awarded the contract for the remodelling of the Agbowo shopping complex for a duration of 18 months with an estimate of 10.8 billion naira through a project specific bond approach

The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Professor Babatunde Musibaudeen equally disclosed that the State government has completed the reconstruction of the New Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro in Abuja.

Professor Musibaudeen said the Vice president,Professor Yemi Osinbajo would commission the lodge on 23th May 2023.

To reduce cases of auto crashes in the state, Oyo State Government has inaugurated Road Safety Advisory Council (SORSAC).

The Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi  Makinde, Mr Segun Ogunwuyi is the chairman of 10 – man council.

Inaugurating the council at the Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan, Governor Makinde said the task before it was to work on how to stem the incessant cases of crashes across the state in view of the high rate of crashes been recorded in the state.

“Because our roads are getting better so also the rate at which people are crashing their vehicles is also getting higher.

“In fact, the reason we are constructing world-class roads and infrastructure is because we want people to enjoy driving on those roads.

“Apart from the roads targeting our economy and connecting our zones, we want people to experience real pleasure driving on these roads.

“But what you see is that people start speeding anyhow on the roads.

“Now, we have to put speed bumps, which again will make driving not pleasurable, so, we have real challenges to deal with.

“Apart from educating drivers, the council have to let them and passengers know that if somebody is already drunk there is no need for them to risk their lives,” he said.

Governor Makinde called for the replication of the council at the local level promising that his administration would give necessary support to the committee.

Members of the committee are Commissioner for Works and Transport, Prof. Daud Sangodoyin; Commissioner for Health, Dr Bode Ladipo; Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo and Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr AbdulRamoh AbdulRaheem.

Other members include Commissioner for Finance, Mr Akintola Ojo; Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Mr Abiodun Oni and Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Prof Musibau Babatunde.

Representative of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Mr Victor Ogunranti and the State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Chukwurah Uche, were also members of the SORSAC.

Oyo State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with four private investors in Nigeria towards the development of real estate in the state through concessional agreement.

Five billion naira is to be injected into the real estate sector of the state’s economy aimed at ameliorating the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic, among other steps evolved by the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.

The projects include the design, construction, commissioning and management of Bodija Recreation Center by Refcon Ltd and construction of about 360 units of medium and low-cost housing estate by Remax Realtors.

Others are the development of eleven units of premium 5-bedroom units by Wood et al Ltd and the development of forty-five units of premium 5-bedroom townhouse by Project Scope Ltd.

Speaking at the signing held in Ibadan, the Director-General, Oyo State Investment and Public-Private Partnership, Mr Segun Ogunwuyi said the concessional agreement on the injection of 5 billion naira into the state’s economy would be felt in youths’ employment and improved commercial atmosphere.

Mr Ogunwuyi said the present administration in Oyo State, under the leadership of Engineer Seyi Makinde was doing everything possible to turn around the fortune of the state for the better.

The projects include construction of 360 units of medium and low-cost housing units on 13 hectares at Ajoda New Town and development of eleven units of premium 5 bedroom terrace house with all necessary infrastructures on a vacant land at Oba Awosika Street at Bodija.
