The Olaiya flyover in osogbo which is near completion has been certified to be of good quality and for use.

These were the submissions of engineers and technologists in Osun state after an inspection visit to the project site in osogbo.

Answering questions from newsmen after they had been conducted round the flyover by the Osun state commissioner for works, Engineer Remi Omowaye, Chairman, Nigeria Society of Engineers, Osogbo, Engineer Wale Alonge and Technologist Engineer Ubigodhere Moses said the contractor used quality materials which made the project safe for use.

Both Engineer Alonge and Technologist Engineer Moses commended Osun state government for using indigenous engineers which had proved to the world that Nigerian Engineers could handle huge projects.

Also speaking, Chief Inspectorate of The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, Osogbo Inspectorate Regulation and Monitoring, Engineer Sakariyau Ademola harped on the need for proper maintenance of the flyover.

In his words, Osun state commissioner for works and transport, Engineer Remi Omowaye said the flyover would soon be opened for use.

Engineer Omowaye hinted that the state government was mapping out means to dualise Old garage-okefia-Lameco road in osogbo.

The need to reposition the Nigeria Engineering industry, explore and harness local content and engineers for economic development formed the basis of a day symposium in honour of Late engineering Legend, Engineer Emmanuel Oladeji.

The event which was held at the Function Hall, Jogor Centre, Ibadan, saw key speakers advocating the involvement of Nigerian Engineers in Nigeria capital projects.

Delivering a lecture on the topic: Engineering capacity Building Towards National Development, the lead speaker who is also the former Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Olufemi Bamiro said Nigeria was dominated with low-level industrial competitiveness which he said must be addressed if the country must take its pride of place in the comity of nations.

Represented by Professor Ayodeji Oluleye, Professor Bamiro decried the inability of Nigerian Universities to graduate thoroughly skilled engineers and challenged the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, on the adoption of detailed guidelines to outcome-based education (OBE) benchmark for Engineering programmes in Nigerian Universities..

The son of the Late Engineer Emmanuel Oladeji, Engineer Olabode Akindeji-Oladeji said his father had impacted the country through several dams constructed within and outside the southwest zone as well as outside Nigeria.

The Nigeria Society of Engineers, NSE, in Ekiti State has called on citizens to see public infrastructure as their own property to promote easy maintenance.

A guest speaker at this year’s NSE annual Dinner and Award Night, Professor Sam Adejuyigbe made the call in Ado Ekiti while delivering a lecture entitled “Management of engineering infrastructure the role of various stakeholders, government, the public and engineers”.

Ekiti State government wants members of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, NSE, to see themselves as critical stakeholders in ensuring provision of water and hygienic environment to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Mr Bamidele Faparusi made this known in Ado-Ekiti at this year’s Engineering Week of the state.
