The Nigeria Police Force has given Nigerians the assurance of a secured atmosphere before, during and after the 2023 general elections.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Usman Baba stated this in Ibadan at the opening of the annual conference of the Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officers and Strategic Communication Experts.

The annual conference with the theme “Strengthening Strategic Communication Towards Police Reforms, Security and Integrity of 2023 Election” was to empower police image makers on matters relating to Election Management, Law Enforcement, and Communications.

The IGP who spoke through the Deputy Inspector-General,1, of Police in charge of Southwest, Mr Babatunde Kokumo said the programme became necessary considering the task ahead of the elections.

The IGP said the police public relations officers, remained the image makers of the force, hence the need to be well informed for strategic communication in the discharge of their civic responsibility.

The Inspector General was of the opinion that training of officers and synergy among other security agencies would guarantee, free, fair and credible elections.

In a remark, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed described the program as a necessary tool for peace and security.

Represented by the Director of Production and Documentation in the ministry, Mr Ibidapo Okunnu, The Minister said it was important Police Public Relations Officers were well informed on the significance of strategic communications in dealing with the public, to reduce misinformation and fake news capable of heating up the polity.

Earlier, In his address of welcome, the Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi expressed optimism that the conference would equip officers with the needed skills, especially during the general elections.

The highpoint of the conference was the conferment of awards of excellence on some police public relations officers who distinguished themselves in the line of duty.

They include Adewale Osifeso from Oyo and Benjamin Hundeyin from Lagos State.

The program, being attended by 37 Command Public Relations Officers covering the 36 States of the Federation and FCT, Abuja, 17 Zonal Public Relations Officers, Liaison Officers of Police Formations, as well as the staff officers of the Force Public Relations Department ends on Thursday, 15th December 2022.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, has commended the security operatives particularly officers of the Nigeria Police Force, the Military, and other security agencies as well as the electorates in Osun State for the peaceful conduct of the elections held on Saturday, July 16th, 2022.

He gave The commendation in a release signed by the force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi

The IGP applauds the massive deployment of Police Operatives, Specialized Units, and other human and operational assets including 3 Helicopters and a couple of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for aerial surveillance in the 3 Senatorial Districts, 4 adequately manned gun boats for the riverine areas, and Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) which enabled swift responses to the pockets of electoral issues.

He equally lauds the collaborative efforts of other security agencies which assisted in the peaceful conduct of the elections.

The IGP appreciates the electorates in Osun State as well as critical stakeholders for their role in collectively maintaining decorum and cooperating with law enforcement agencies, noting that the professionalism displayed by officers deployed for the election equally helped to garner trust, and ultimately led to the success of the process.

He similarly assures that the Force is continuously improving on it’s election security mandate for a top notch 2023 General Elections.

In the same vein, the Inspector-General of Police has encourages Nigerians to tow the line of peaceful conduct in subsequent elections most especially the forthcoming General Elections. 

He assures all citizens of improved  election security management during any electioneering processes even as he calls on well meaning Nigerians, particularly electorates and political actors, to accord necessary support to the Police and other security agencies in the forthcoming 2023 General Elections and general security and safety of our dear nation.

The suspended Head of the Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, has been arrested by the Nigerian police.

According to the PUNCH he was arrested alongside four others on Monday.

Kyari was arrested hours after National Drug Law Enforcement Agency declared him wanted over alleged drug links.

The suspended DCP is also under investigation after the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States of America indicted him in the case of fraud involving Instagram celebrity, Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi.

A senior police officer at the Force headquarters said that Kyari was handcuffed and arrested like any other suspect.

“He has been arrested. He was handcuffed and will be handed over to the appropriate agency. He was not given any preferential treatment,” the police officer said.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Force, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, also confirmed Kyari’s arrest.

He, however, did not give details, saying that a press release would be issued soon.

When asked to confirm Kyari’s arrest, Adejobi replied, “Yes and four others. A statement will be issued soon.”

Ogun state Police command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Biodun Adebiyi for allegedly beating a 30-year-old cigarette seller, Mukaila Adamu to death over fifty naira balance. 

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the arrest of the Suspect in a statement in Abeokuta.

Mr. Oyeyemi said the Suspect who resides at number 35, Oladun Street Ikotun Lagos was arrested after the father of the deceased, Adamu Abubakar reported the incident at Idiroko divisional headquarters.

He explained the suspect had come to buy cigarettes at the shop of the deceased around two O’clock in the afternoon but returned at about ten o’clock in the evening to the demand for his balance.

The father of the deceased who said the suspect gave his late son a blow after a heated argument had ensued between them noted that his son collapsed and was confirmed dead in the hospital where he was rushed to.

Mr. Oyeyemi said the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

Ogun State Police command has arrested a 33 year old man, Imoleayo Adekoya for allegedly raping a 27 year old lady.

The suspect was arrested after the victim reported the incident at Sakora divisional headquarters Shagamu area of Ogun state.

The victim claimed that she was coming from Ipoji area, when the suspect allegedly pounced on her and forcefully had sex with her.

The Police Public Relations officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the arrest in Abeokuta said the suspect claimed to be under the influence of alcohol as of the time the incident happened.

Mr Oyeyemi noted that the victim had been taken to hospital for treatment and medical report. 

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Mr Edward Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and prosecution.

Ogun state Police command have arrested an administrative staff of College of Health Technology Mr. Olawale Jamiu for allegedly raping a student.

According to a statement by the state Police command spokesman, Mr Abímbólá Oyeyemi, the 39 years old college staff was arrested following a report lodged at Ilese Ijebu divisional headquarters by the management of the college. 

He stated that the victim was raped when she went to collect her school file from the office of the suspect.

Mr. Oyeyemi noted that the suspect dragged the victim into the file room and forcefully had sex with her.

He said the victim later reported the incident to her guardian who in turn reported to the authority of the school. 

According to the statement, the suspect who initially denied the allegation could not deny the apologetic message he sent to the victim after the act.

Meanwhile the victim had been taken to state hospital Ijebu Ode for medical treatments while  the Ogun state commissioner of police, Mr. Edward Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to anti human trafficking and child labour unit for prosecution.

Osun police commissioner, Wale Olokode has confirmed the arrest of the trigger happy corporal, who shot a graduate of Adekleke University, Ede, James Ajayi yesterday, along Ilesa-Ijebujesa road.

The state police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola made this known in a chat with Gold FM.
Mrs. Opalola quoted the police commissioner as saying that the corporal would be made to pay dearly for his misconduct if found guilty to serve as a deterrent to others.

Quick response from the doctors at the accident and emergency unit of Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital Wesley Guild Ilesa, saved Ajayi’s life after he was shot by a police corporal at a checkpoint near Odo Okun in Ijebujesa Osun state.

The victim who was traveling in a lexus car said he was coming from Osogbo to see his mother in Akure before the ugly incident.

A lady who gave her identity as Mariam has been found by some good Samaritans wandering the streets of Oko town, in Surulere local government area of Oyo state.

Located along Ogbomoso-Osogbo road, Oko town shares boundary with Ejigbo Osun state.

Mariam who was incoherent in her speech appeared to be in her mid-twenties.

All information she could render was that she was staying with her sister, a fashion designer known as Iya Jamiu who also sells charcoal but could not give account of her location.

On her account, she said Iya Jamiu sent her (Mariam)to go and hand over a newly sewn sac to a customer and from that point she lost consciousness of what she was doing.

She claimed some traders sell clothes and shoes in front of Iya Jamiu’s shop.

She described Iya Jamiu’s husband as either a bricklayer or carpenter.

“They call him for work whenever anyone is building a house”she said.

Her description suggests he is either a bricklayer or carpenter.

Mariam looks neat, suggesting that she has not been on the street wandering for too long.

Some sympathizers attributed her Yoruba intonation to that of Kwara state extraction.

She has, however, as of Thursday night been taken to Oko police station.

As at the time she was found, she was still holding the sac she was meant to handover to a customer.

Meanwhile, she does not have any item of identity on her.

The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 38 years old man, Semiu Oyewo for being in possession of human skull.

The police also arrested 13 others for allegedly committing various offenses ranging from armed robbery to assault and rape.

Parading the suspects at the police Headquarters in Osogbo, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Olawale Olokode explained that Semiu Oyewo who was caught with human skull was intercepted along Ile Ife/Ibadan highway, claiming it was sold to him for ₦25,000 by a herbalist residing in Apomu popularly known as Ige.

Mr Olokode also paraded a gang of four suspects who allegedly terrorized Owode Ede community, where they snatched bags, raped women and robbed POS owners.

Similarly, a 24 years old Lasisi Wasiu was shown to the public as a cultist and murderer who had carried out numerous attacks on innocent residents of Orile Owu in Ayedaade Local Government. 

Another 4 gang of armed robbers led by one Sunday Olamiposi were paraded for snatching motorcycle after unleashing terror on the owners among many other related atrocities committed around between Ilesa and Osogbo.

The Commissioner of Police called on the people of Osun to always provide the police with useful information that would enable it nip crime in the bud.

The family of a deceased, Waheed Olarenwaju has made an application before Oyo State Judicial Panel on Police Brutality that his corpse be released for burial.

Counsel to the family, Mr Adekola Kareem made the appeal at today’s sitting of retired Justice Badejoko Adeniji-led panel in a petition with OYJPPB/065.

The late Waheed Olarenwaju was alleged to have defiled a 13 year old girl Akintunde Ifeoluwa at Galaxy Oke Are Ibadan around 6.30 in the evening on January 10th, 2021.

Ifeoluwa was said to have been defiled by the deceased, who had sent her on an errand.

On hearing about the sexual assault, the teen’s mother who happen to be a member of Odua Peoples Congress, OPC, called her colleague who then arrested Waheed Olanrewaju.

Olanrewaju was said to have tried to escape while being taken to the police station on a bike, which led to his being beaten to death by the OPC members and IfeOluwa’s mother.

Thereafter, they allegedly carried Olanrewaju’s corpse to the police station where it was later deposited at the Adeoyo Hospital mortuary.

During a cross examination, the defense counsel to the police Mr Matthew Ojeh said investigation was still going on the matter.

The Panel therefore ordered the counsel to the Police to produce the mother of the girl defiled by Olanrewaju, Mrs Funmilayo Ojo along with Mr Oore-Ofe Temitope, the okada rider that carried the deceased on the day he was beaten to death.

The panel then adjourned the petition till 15th June 2021 for further hearing.

Men of Ogun state police command have arrested a car wash operator, Idris Ayotunde for car theft.

A statement by the Command Spokesman Mr. Abímbólá Oyeyemi in Abeokuta explained that the car a maroon coloured Ford car with registration number EPE 707 FM was stolen from the owner in Lagos. 

He said the suspect was arrested at Alakija village via Olodo by safer highway patrol team on stop and search duty along Abeokuta/Ibadan expressway. 

Mr. Oyeyemi hinted that the team stopped the car and demanded for its documents which the suspect was unable to produce.

According to the Ogun police command Spokesman, the owner of the car who had reported the case at Shasha police station has been contacted and confirmed that the car was stolen. 

In the meantime, the state commissioner of police has ordered the transfer of the case to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for transfer to Lagos state command where the car was stolen.

The leadership of the Nigerian Police Force need to regain the trust and confidence of its personnel in the minds of the people to avoid the continued peaceful protest by Nigerian youths. 

This formed parts of the submissions of the Oyo State Chairperson, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Mrs Adebobola Agbeja while addressing newsmen in Ibadan. 

Mrs Agbeja said the only way to achieve the rebuilding of public trust is to reform and restructure the entire force, which she said should begin from the recruitment process, overhauling of police colleges, reorientation and purposeful leadership.

The NYCN chairperson said the protest is not aimed at supporting criminality and internet fraud but a unified effort to end the excesses of personnel of the Nigeria Police notwithstanding the ban on SARS. 

Mrs Agbeja also advocated good governance and more employment opportunities for the youths. 

Also speaking, executive director of a civil society organization, Dr Oluwabukola Olatunji stressed the need for community dialogue, investigation of all former and newly disbanded SARS personnel and prosecution of bad eggs in the formation.

A five year old boy has been reportedly killed by an unknown assailant at Tose Phase ll, Olorunsogo Area, Moniya, Akinyele Local Government, Ibadan.

The deceased named Mojeeb Tirimisiyu, was reportedly killed behind his father’s uncompleted building.

According to Mojeeb’s mother, Mrs Mufuliat Tirimisiyu while narrating the incident, said after the Monday morning downpour, Mojeeb went to the toilet, and after a while she heard a scream from her son, she rushed to scene where Mojeeb was nowhere to be found.

Mrs Tirimisiyu said that Mojeeb was later found with blood gushing out his head.

The mother of the deceased explained that Mojeeb was quickly rushed to a nearby private hospital, efforts to save his life proved abortive as he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Chairman, Landlord Association of the area, Mr Maruf Aponmode who condemned the killing of Mojeed, said incessant killing of young people in Akinyele local government is getting out of hand and unacceptable, hence the need for stakeholders to find urgent solution.

In a chat with Radio Nigeria, Chairman, Oyo State Vigilante Group, Alhaji Abiodun Olabamiji, who was at the scene of incident said the three caretaker Chairmen of Akinyele council area were in a security meeting before the group was alerted about the case.

As at the time of filling this report efforts to confirm the incident with Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi proved abortive.

The body of Mojeeb had been deposited by the Moniya Divisional Police to the morgue.

Apart from Police other local security operatives at the scene of the gruesome crime were, Vigilante Group, Soludero and Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC).

The new Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Nwachukwu Enwonwu had recently relocated his office to Akinyele Area, due to incessant killings by unknown assailants.

It would be recalled that recently a 21 year Old Grace Osiagu, 18 year old Barakat Bello and 29 year old pregnant Azeezat Shomuyiwa were all gruesomely murdered in Akinyele local government.

The new Commissioner of Police in Oyo state, Mr Nwachuku Enwonwu has called on officers and men of the command to always be civil while discharging their duties to earn the trust of the masses.

Mr Enwonwu stated this while taking over the Oyo state Police Command from the outgoing Police boss in the state, Mr Shina Olukolu.

Mr Enwonwu affirmed that any police officer found terrorizing the public instead of protecting them would be dealt with.

While handling over the Command to the new Commissioner, the outgoing police boss, Mr Shina Olukolu said working in Oyo state had been a smooth challenge which would forever assist him wherever he finds himself.

Mr Olukolu therefore called for the continuous support of the officers, community, traditional and religious leaders as well as the Governments, to afford his successor free hand to operate.

The transition ceremony was devoid of usual pump and pageantry in order to comply with social distancing directive.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor of Oyo State, Mr. Taiwo Adisa wants stakeholders in the state to desist from politicising the location of the newly inaugurated Police Mobile Force 72 Squadronbase in Ago-Are, in Oke-Ogun axis of the state.

A statement by the governor’s media aide denies reports that the Mobile Police base was relocated by Governor Makinde from Oyo town to Ago-Are.

Mr Adisa says the allegations are unfounded, false and a misrepresentation of the true situation.

The statement explains that Governor Seyi Makinde had secured the nod of the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, for the location of a Mobile Police Squadron base in Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo State in August 2019. 

It notes that the governor made a direct request for the approval of the Mobile Base, in view of the determination of his administration to make agribusiness a major ladder to grow the state’s economy.

The statement adds that the letter being paraded on social media made no reference to Governor Makinde and was neither copied to the governor.

An officer of the Nigeria Police Force has been killed by a hit-and-run driver at Marwa, along Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos.

Report says the hit-and-run driver fled the scene of the accident after hitting the policeman.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency identified the deceased as Paul Omaji.

Head, Public Affairs, LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor said the deceased officer, was in mufti, and on his way to resume duty before he was reportedly knocked down by an unidentified vehicle.

Mr Okunbor said the corpse has been deposited in the morgue.

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the death of two policemen, allegedly killed by unknown gunmen in the state. 

It was gathered that the bandits met the policemen at a checkpoint along Ode Irele -Ajagba Road, in Irele Local Government Area of the state, on Monday morning, and allegedly opened fire on them, killing two and injured one other. 

The injured policeman was said to have been immediately rushed to a hospital in the area where he was receiving treatment but the identity of the deceased had not been revealed by the command.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident to Radio Nigeria, said the command had been on the search for the bandits
