The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abiodun Wasiu,  in Minna confirmed that the two suspects were arrested in connection with the incident and investigations had commenced.

Abiodun assured that justice would be served while warning the public against mob action.

This is as police rescued the suspects from being lynched by an angry mob after the remains of the 4-year-old boy, who had been missing for four days, were discovered.

An eyewitness said that one of the suspects, identified as Emmanuel, a building materials trader, had allegedly connived with his gate-man to kidnap the child and kill him.

He said the two suspects allegedly killed the child and removed his vital organs, including his private parts, eyes, ears and heart, while his remains were put in the sack for the gate-man, whose identity was unknown, to dispose of.

The gate-man entered a motorcycle to a stream where he was to dispose of the remains, but on dropping the gate-man, the motorcyclist noticed blood dripping from the sack.

“The commercial motorcyclist alerted the bystanders and police,” the eyewitness said.

The Police then arrested the suspect, who allegedly confessed that he was sent by his landlord to dump the body, saying that they were responsible for kidnapping the boy who had been declared missing for some days.

One of the residents around the area, Mr Abdullahi Musa, said that they never knew Emmanuel was a ritual killer, saying that he was lucky the crowd which had gathered did not get him first before the police came.

“We have set his house on fire. We wish he was the one we got, we would have killed him,” he said.

Another resident, Mrs Maryam Kwambo, said: “Since the creation of Lapai Local Government Area, we’ve never encountered such a radical and wicked situation as today.

“We will get to the roots of this. We will get justice for the child he killed.

“This matter should be handled properly. We seek justice.”

The Force Headquarters has said, any officer caught tarnishing the image of the Nigerian Police Force will be named and his picture displayed to the public to serve as deterrent to others.

The Acting Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi stated this in an interview with Radio Nigeria correspondent in Ibadan.

Mr Adejobi said the step became imperative as the actions of some officers had tarnished the image of the force.

He lamented that, members of the public were now finding it difficult to trust the security agency.

“The image of the police is being dented.
We have noticed that many of them have this belief that the entire police authority will be liable for their crime, which means they don’t know them they only know their commanding officers, their heads of departments.

They generally believe belief that “” who sabi me””( which means who knows me, let me do what I want to do and I will get away with it.

Know that, that era has gone, we are not only going to give query to their commanding officers and their bosses.

The main offenders will be mentioned and fished out and the person should be named and shamed to let people know those who do all these evil are on their own

Inspector-general of police has given this directive from Abuja that this is what we want and this should be done .

many of them are deviant on the road and whenever you come across them they say ‘go ahead’ and disobey the directive of the senior general police.

This is why I said I will name and sham them. That era has gone that you will report to us that a police officer has done something, and will pretend as if we don’t know.

Now, we will surely investigate, we will not just keep quiet ,no, let them know that Nigerians want the best from us, people believe we are bad because we don’t push out those tarnishing our image so let’s obtain this method and see how it is going to work .

There are cases in Lagos that people are appreciating what police authority have done”. The PPRO said.

After the nationwide protests  against Police brutality last year, Federal government instructed state governments to set up panel of inquiry to look into petitions submitted by alleged  victims of the brutality and victimization in various states..

The Panel would also evaluate evidence presented and draw conclusion as to the validity of the complaints.

At the inaugural sitting of the panel in Oyo State, some of the petitioners were not present to prosecute their petitions while those present had their respondents absent.

Another case was that of an officer of the Nigerian Army, Adebayo Aderijo Samuel against Nigeria Police which was also refused.

Reacting to the absence of the Police at the sitting, Chairman of the panel, former Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Badejoko Adeniji frowned at the attitude and order fresh services on them.

Justice Adeniji said the panel would visit the new Commissioner of Police Mrs Ngozi Onadeko to let her know the essence of sending representative to defend them before the panel.

Earlier in her inaugural speech, Justice Adeniji said the panel would deliver its duties without fear or favour.

In a goodwill message Chairman Nigeria Bar Association, Mr. Yinka Esan said the Association has mandated its members to provide free legal services to any petitioner who could not afford legal fee.

Mr. Esan urged the members of the panel to carefully examine the evidence before making their decisions.
