President Bola Tinubu says the void left by late Former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu will be difficult to fill and his legacies will endure forever.

The President spoke when he visited the ancient town of Owo in Owo local government area of Ondo State.

President Tinubu was received in Akure the state capital by Ondo State governor, Mr Lucky Ayedatiwa who led the President to Owo town to commiserate with the Monarch and people of the town over the passing of the former governor.

Our correspondent reports that at the Olowo palace, the President said it was honourable to depart the world when the ovation is loudest.

He acknowledged the courage and fearless nature of the late governor especially his passion for good governance.

The Olowo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, conveyed heartfelt appreciation to the president for his visit.

He described the former governor as a true democrat, highlighting his unwavering commitment to democratic principles and practices. 

The monarch expressed gratitude to Governor Aiyedatiwa, acknowledging and commending the governor’s significant efforts in orchestrating a befitting burial ceremony for the late governor.

Dignitaries in attendance included the Ondo state Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, Speaker House of Assembly, Chief Olamide Oladiji, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Segun Omojuwa and traditional rulers across the state.

As part of activities lined up to mark the 2022 Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2022, the 32 Artillery Brigade, has organized a free medical outreach for the people of Owo local government area of Ondo State. 

The Commander of the Artillery Brigade, Owena Barracks Akure, Brigadier General Mukhtar Adamu who was represented by the Acting Assistant Chief of Staff in charge of Administration, Major E.C. Osondu, stated that the Nigerian Army had decided to give back to society in order to celebrate its day. 

According to Brigadier General Adamu, various medical sections such as the Laboratory Section, Pharmacy Section, Dental Section, Records Department, Nursing Section, and Doctor’s Consultation Unit have been mobilized for the medical needs of the people. 

The Army chief noted that drugs and mosquito nets were being given, the covid-19 test was conducted, blood pressure was checked, dental issues were attended to, amongst others. 

Brigadier General Adamu urged the people to continue to provide useful information for the security agencies for a peaceful society.

In his remarks, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye expressed his joy and profound gratitude to the Nigerian Army for such great privilege given to the people of Owo at this critical time.

Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo says it is imperative for Southwest Governors to redesign their security architecture to safeguard the lives and property of the people.

Pa Ayo Adebanjo gave the charge when he led members of the group to Owo, Ondo State.

Pa Adebanjo while sympathizing with the people of Ondo State, the governor, Olowo of Owo Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin called for a proper review and introduction of community policing.

He noted that until perpetrators are caught and prosecuted and their sponsors uncovered, such attacks would persist.

The Pan Yoruba Group, Afenifere, donated One Point Five million naira to the Catholic Church to support the victims.

Reacting, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye thanked Afenifere for their show of love promising to encourage other traditional rulers in the Southwest to come up with further strategies towards improving security in the region.

The Afenifere delegation included the Alaago of Ago Ijesha, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, Chief Olu Falae, Mr Sola Ebiseni, Dr Shola Agboola former AIG Mr Tunde Alapini among others.

Environment

The Federal government has expressed its commitment towards addressing devastating effects of erosion and floods in all parts of the country. 

The Minister of State for Niger Delta, Senator Tayo Alasoadura stated this at the inauguration and handing-over of the erosion control of flooded areas and road rehabilitation project in Owo, Ondo State.

Radio Nigeria correspondent, Kayode Animasaun reports that the project executed by the Federal government through the Ecological fund office was handed over to the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye on behalf of the community.
