Residents of communities along Ojere-Oba Road in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State have appealed to relevant authorities to find a lasting solution to the perennial flood affecting the area.

The people who appealed in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Abeokuta said the flood had remained a nightmare for the residents in the area whenever it rained.

A civil servant, Mr Ajala Sheriff who described the productive hours being wasted on the road as unfortunate, identified the lack of a drainage channel as the major challenge affecting the area.

Mr Sheriff appealed to the lawmaker representing Abeokuta North/Obafemi-Owode/Odeda in the House of Representatives, Mr Olumide Osoba to use his influence to urgently address the problem in the interest of the people of the area.

Also, the chairman of Abule Ake Community, Mr Habeeb Adenariwo who said the road remained impassable especially when it rained, called on the present administration in the state to rehabilitate the road to alleviate their sufferings.

Contributing, a community leader, Mr Olanrewaju Ojetola implored the Director of Ogun State Road Maintenance Agency, OGROMA, to fulfil his promise to rehabilitate the road before the rainy season.

Residents of Mowe-Ofada in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State will soon begin to enjoy a smooth drive as the eight kilometer road which has been under construction is expected to be completed and ready for the use of commuters plying the road by the end of October, 2023.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun made this known during an assessment and inspection of work on the road.

Governor Abiodun who noted that the present administration had ensured the equitable distribution of infrastructure across the twenty local government areas of the state since 2019, said the completion of the road would boost socio-economic development in the axis.

The governor while appreciating the people of the local government for their support especially during the just concluded general elections also asked for their continued support and patience.

Forty thousand farmers are expected to benefit from the World Bank assisted programme through agricultural intervention programmes of Ogun State Economic Transformation Project, OGSTEP.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina announced this during a familiarization and validation exercise to some places in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.

Dr. Adesina explained that the OGSTEP intervention programme included provision of farm infrastructure, such as road network, water and electricity supply that would link farmers to industrial process in order to create jobs.

While distributing two kilograms bags of maize seeds, cassava stems, cocoa and cashew seedlings to the farmers, the agriculture Commissioner expressed delight at the communities’ readiness for the programme.

Also, the Acting Programme Manager, OGSTEP, Dr. Oluseyi Olugbire explained that the programme was meant to enhance ease of doing business which would attract investors, strengthen the agricultural value-chains, rural infrastructure, private sector participation and technical assistance towards increased productivity.

Speaking on behalf of farmers in the community, the Olori-Oko of Sode Village, Chief Adesegun Shorinmade expressed joy at the intervention and thanked the government for the gesture.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has flagged-off harvesting of 2020 Wet Season Rice planted by the State Government to support youth farmers.

Speaking at the ceremony held at Sowunmi Village, Mokoloki, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state, Governor Abiodun who was represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Adeola Odedina said his administration was committed to ensure all year rice production in the state.

Governor Abiodun explained that the rice which was planted in March 2020 at the onset of COVID-19 lockdown, was the focal point of the flag off of the Wet Season Rice Harvest in the state under the Federal Government, International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD and Value Chain Development Programme, VCDP.

He pointed out that the state youth Rice Production Enterprise operating in all rice growing locations in ten local government areas of the state had earlier harvested dry season rice in April 2020.

Governor Abiodun also said that his administration placed a high premium on agriculture sector as part of efforts to create jobs and make the state the food basket of the nation.

Crime

A baby-making factory had been uncovered by men of the Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command at Imedu-Olori area of Mowe in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.

The illegal baby factory according to the command’s spokesman, Alhaji Abimbola Oyeyemi, was discovered when one of the inmates escaped from the home and reported at Mowe Police Station.

Alhaji Oyeyemi said the escaped inmate reported that she was lured into the home and was held captive.

The police explained that the alleged owner of the baby factory, one Florence Ogbonna had been contracting the service of able-bodied men to sleep with the ladies in order to impregnate them.

According to the police spokesman, when the detectives raided the baby-making factory, twelve ladies between ages twenty to twenty-five years were rescued with six of them heavily pregnant.

The police have since effected the arrest of the operators of the home including Florence Ogbonna, Chibuke Akabueze, and Chibuzor Okafor in connection to the case.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation.

He also directed the safe keep of the victims pending the time they would be re-united with their respective families.
