Ogun State House of Assembly has emphasized then need for Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to improve on its monitoring mechanisms to ensure quality delivery of ongoing road projects across the State.

Chairman, Committee on Works and Infrastructure, Mr Adegoke Adeyanju stated this while leading other members on an oversight visit to some of the sites of the road projects in Obafemi/Owode, Ikenne, Odogbolu, Remo North and Ijebu-Ode.

He stressed the importance of professional supervision of the projects during the construction and completion phases to maximize the benefits of the State investment in road infrastructure;  describing the road projects as critical towards enhancing accessibility and attracting investments to the State.

He emphasised the need for timely completion of the projects in line with agreed schedules and advised on the inclusion of adequate drainage system to prevent flooding. 

The House Committee Chairman also stressed the importance of even distribution of projects, particularly to all parts of the State to ensure balanced development.

The committee members including mr Yusuf Sherrif, Mr Lukman Adeleye, Mr Dickson Awolaja, Dr Babatunde Tella and Mr Oluseun Adesanya, inspected road projects across several local government areas, and commended the ongoing efforts of the Prince Dapo Abiodun led-administration for the development initiatives.

Ogun State House of Assembly has acknowledged Governor Dapo Abiodun’s request for confirmation of four nominees for appointment as commission members.

Speaker, Mr Olakunle Oluomo read the letter during a plenary session held at the Assembly Complex, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta. 

The nominees are Mr. Adeleye Ademola for Teaching Service Commission; Mr Onadeko Onamusi for the House of Assembly Service Commission; Princess Adesola Elegbeji and Mr Akinpelu Nurudeen for the Judicial Service Commission.

Meanwhile, the State House of Assembly also appealed to parents to rededicate themselves to inculcate the necessary moral and nation-building values in their wards to rid the society of the social menace of cultism and other criminal activities.

The Speaker, Mr Oluomo made the appeal while responding to the submission of a member representing Odeda State Constituency,Mr Oludaisi Elemide, who had earlier raised the issue of incessant cult clashes among rival groups leading to apprehension and killings along Obantoko area of the State.

Mr Oluomo, equally called on community leaders to collaborate with security agencies at ridding the society of criminal elements in the guise of belonging to a secret cult, counseling the security agencies to be more professional in handling security challenges in the State.

The Speaker also commiserated with the National Union of Teachers and the Nigeria Labour Congress and the family of Comrade Sunday Ogunjimi, who lost his life during the last strike action by the state workers.

Two bills including the one seeking to alter the nomenclature of the Tai Solarin College of Education to the Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science and Technology, Omu-Ajose Law, 2021 and the fiscal responsibility commission Amendment law,2021 have been passed at the Ogun State house of Assembly.

The Sikiru Adetona college of Education Science and Technology bill was targeted at addressing the identity challenge being faced by the college of education in accessing intervention funds, and positioning the institution for better academic performance.

Also, the bill on Fiscal responsibility commission would ensure prudent management of the State’s resources, thereby achieving greater accountability and transparency in fiscal operations.

The passage of the bills followed the separate presentations of the reports of the Committee on Education, Science and Technology by the Chairman, Mr. Adeyemi Ademuyiwa, and his Finance and Appropriation counterpart, Mr Kunle Sobukanla.

Responding, Speaker Oluomo, directed that the clean copies of the bills be forwarded to the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his assent.

The Ogun State House of Assembly, OGHA, has impeached its deputy Speaker, Mr. Oludare Kadiri following his indictment for gross misconduct.

The removal of the Deputy Speaker followed a report presented by the ad hoc committee set up on Tuesday  by the Speaker, Mr Olakunle Oluomo to investigate his role as vice chairman, fund management committee.

According to the chairman of the committee, the Deputy Speaker was removed for misconduct and insubordination.

Ogun State House of Assembly has appealed to the leadership of the Association of Resident Doctors at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, OOUTH, Sagamu, to suspend the ongoing industrial action.

The Speaker, Mr Olakunle Oluomo made the appeal at a meeting with representatives of the unions and the government delegation, at the Assembly Complex, Oke -Mosan, Abeokuta

The Ogun House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the state government to urgently suspend the activities of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in order to avoid a crisis in the state.

The motion for the resolution was moved by the Majority Leader, Mr Yusuf Sherriff during plenary in Abeokuta, seconded by Mr Jemili Akingbade. 

The Majority Leader said that a committee of experienced unionist be put in place by the state government to handle the union’s operational weeks for the purpose of generating revenue into government’s coffer. 

He added that the committee should be under the monitoring of House Committee on Transportation. 

Earlier, Mr Oludaisi Elemide Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, speaking under personal explanation, had hinted the House on the impending crisis in the NURTW. 

In a remark, the Speaker, Mr Olakunle Oluomo reiterated that the House of Assembly would not allow the members of NURTW to turn the state to theater of war.

The Ogun House of Assembly, OGHA, has confirmed the appointment of Mrs. Kikelomo Longe as Commissioner and Justice Mobolaji Ojo as President, Ogun State Customary Court of Appeal.

The confirmation of the nominees followed a motion moved by Mr. Yusuf Sherif and seconded by Mr. Jemili Akingbade during plenary, chaired by the Speaker, Mr. Olakunle Oluomo. 

The majority leader who had earlier read the report of the Committee to the Whole House, said the nominees were found capable and suitable.

Meanwhile, Chairmen and members of caretaker committee from six local government all in Ogun Central Senatorial District have been screened by the state house of assembly, with a charge to promote peace and development at the grassroots.

The speaker, Mr. Olakunle Oluomo gave the charge during the screening held at the Assembly complex, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta. 

Mr. Oluomo also encouraged the committee members to avoid political segregation in the discharge of their duties and strengthen cordial relationship with all stakeholders.
