Ogun state government has reaffirmed its administration’s determination to ensure that the state sustained its polio-free status.


The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker gave the assurance during the flag off ceremony of the First Round, Outbreak Response Exercise against Polio virus held at the Iberekodo Primary Health Centre, Abeokuta.


Dr Coker who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Olukayode Oladeinde, said over two million children under the age of 0-59 months were targeted at during the exercise.

The Ogun state health commissioner who pointed that the outbreak of the Circulating Variant of Poliomyelitis virus in the country necessitated the exercise noted that the state in collaboration with Development Partners deemed it fit to tackle any form of the infection.


Also, the Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, who said that children of ages 0-59 months would be vaccinated with two drops of the Oral Polio Vaccine, OPV, maintained that the vaccines remained safe and potent.


In their separate messages, representative, National Team Lead for OBR1, Dr. Suleiman Haladu and the State Cordinator, World Health Organization WHO, Mrs Afolake Ogunlaja and her counterpart from the  National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Victoria Adebiyi said that the vaccines were safe and effective in protecting children against diseases, reiterating that their organizations remained committed to supporting the Ogun Government in all its healthcare programs aimed at ensuring the wellbeing of residents especially children.


Earlier, Chairman, Abeokuta North Local Government, Mr Abdul Sallam Adebayo represented by the Medical Officer of Health, Dr Oladipupo Afonja appreciated the present administration for the various health programmes and interventions, which he said, were focused on improving the wellbeing of children.

All is set for the maiden edition of the 5-Aside Street Soccer Competition tagged, “Iseya Cup 2022”

Speaking with journalists in Abeokuta on the competition, the Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr Oluwadare Kehinde said the tournament would go a long way to assist the state in the discovery of talents that would represent the state in national and international competitions.

Dr Kehinde, who was represented by the Director of Administration and Supply, Mrs Kuforiji Iyabode, renewed the commitment of the present administration to continue to create a conducive environment to enable private investors to thrive.

The initiator of the competition, Mr Charles Williams said the 5-Aside Street Soccer Exhibition tagged, “Iseya cup 2022, was part of the efforts of the organization to empower the youths, eradicate social vices and promote sporting activities among the youths

Mr Williams, who noted that over one thousand teams had indicated interest to participate in the competition, expressed optimism that the street soccer exhibition would also reveal hidden potential at the grassroots.

A 49-year-old man, Ganiyu Shina of Oguji Street, Obantoko, Abeokuta, arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for bathing with blood at a community river, in Kotopo area of Odeda Local Government, said he was instructed to do so by a herbalist.

The suspect was arrested when members of the community sighted him at the river bank, where he parked his Nissan commercial vehicle, came out with a local sponge and a container filled with blood and started bathing with it.

Immediately he discovered that some people were watching him, he took to his heels but was chased and apprehended by members of the community.

A call was made to the police at Aregbe divisional headquarters by a member of the community, and the DPO, SP Bunmi Asogbon quickly led the patrol team to the scene, from where the suspect was brought to the station.

On interrogation, the suspect claimed to have a spiritual problem, and that a herbalist instructed him to perform the ritual.
He claimed further that the blood in his possession was not human, but that of a cow.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has directed that the remaining blood should be taken for laboratory analysis, to ascertain whether it’s human blood or not.

The Ogun State security outfit, So-Safe Corps has secured the release of a kidnap victim and apprehended two of the six kidnapped suspects.

In a statement from the office of the State Commander of the Corps, Dr  Soji Ganzalo through the office of the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Mr  Moruf Yusuf said that the agency was able to secure the release of Mr Seyi Olorunsogo, a victim, who was kidnapped right in front of the gate of his house at Solu, Rounder, Abeokuta.

According to Dr Ganzalo, the victim was kidnapped alongside his wife but the husband, Seyi surrendered himself and pleaded that his wife be set free, and they concurred.

Dr Ganzallo said that the kidnappers then advanced from there through Onigbedu, Ewekoro in Ifo Local Government Area and met Mr Francis Oke at Onigbedu while he was on his hunting and kidnapped him.

Mr Oke, however, later escaped from his abductors through his vast knowledge of the routes in the bush.

Dr Ganzalo stated further that it was the hunter that reported the matter to the So-Safe, and the officers swung into action on rescue and apprehension missions.

The Commander as well made it known that some hunters joined the operation to aggressively comb the bush.

Gonzalo noted that the two apprehended kidnap suspects were Umoru, an indigent of Kwara and Alliu who hailed from Kebbi State while the other four who escaped arrest and were at large would definitely be brought to book as So-Safe and hunters continue combing the Bush in the Area.

A riffle was found on the alleged kidnap suspects arrested.

The rescued victim had been transferred to the Nigeria Police, Ewekoro Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigation.

Ogun State government has advised prospective investors, companies, and individuals to desist from the unguided acquisition of lands that belong to the government, especially the 1.5-kilometer corridor on both sides of major roads.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Olatunji Odunlami, who gave the advice in Abeokuta said any development carried out within such locations must be in conformity with the approved land use or development scheme of that area.

Mr Odunlami, listed the areas to include New Ijebu-Ode Mojoda (Epe) road, Sagamu–Abeokuta highway, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Sagamu-Benin highway, Lagos–Abeokuta highway, Papalanto-Sagamu highway, the new Lagos-Ibadan rail line, and lands around the train stations.

He encouraged those concerned to request for Planning Information on the government-approved use or zoning of any land from the Ministry before acquiring such.

Mr Odunlami noted that any illegal development on such land stands a high risk of demolition.

The Nigeria Customs Service says it has generated more than fifty-eight million naira through import duties and auction sales of petroleum products in the last eleven months.

The Customs Area Comptroller, Ogun Area One, Mr Bamidele Makinde announced this to journalists at Idi iroko while highlighting the achievements of the Command during the period under review.

Mr Makinde explained that the Command was also generating revenue from its operations in the importation and exportation of goods under the ECOWAS Trade Liberalization Scheme, ETLS and assessment of merchandise in baggage.

The Customs Area Controller, who estimated the Duty Paid Value of seizures recorded by the Command during the period to be above four billion naira, attributed the success to the effective deployment of intelligence with intensive round-the-clock surveillance and patrol activities. 

Mr Makinde said the contraband items intercepted by the Command included 73 trailer loads of foreign rice, 6 units of used Trucks, more than 16 thousand kegs of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called Petrol and hard drugs. 

He commended the continuous support of the Comptroller General of Customs, Retired Colonel Hameed Ali and other critical stakeholders towards sustaining the fight against smuggling.

Two brothers, Emanuel Nwachukwu and Sunday Nwachukwu have been arrested by the Operatives of Ogun state Police command for allegedly stealing a car marked JJJ 661 GJ.

The suspects, car wash Operators, were apprehended on the Lagos/Ibadan expressway by men of Federal Highway patrol, who were on stop and search duty along the axis.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the arrest of the suspects in Abeokuta said the two brothers were arrested on their way to Imo state with the vehicle.

Mr Oyeyemi explained that the two brothers who live at No 2, Onifade street Fagba Lagos confessed that they stole the car from one Bello Muyideen Kolawole of Arobaba street, Idimu Lagos. 

He pointed out that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO Ewu-Oliwo division,  Toyosi Bello, contacted the said owner, who told the policemen that he took the car to the suspects to wash, only for the two brothers to run away with it.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole, has directed that the two suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments, for onward transfer to Lagos State Command, where the crime was originally committed. 

In another development, the Ogun State-owned Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, So-Safe Corps, has arrested a 48-year-old farmer, Oladele Simon for allegedly hijacking a motorbike at gunpoint.

The state Commander of So-Safe Corps, Commander  Dr  Soji Ganzallo, made this known in a statement through Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Assistant Commander Mr Moruf Yusuf.

Dr Ganzallo noted that the suspect was arrested after the victim reported the incident at the Ifonyintedo Division of the Corps that his motorcycle had been hijacked by the suspect at gunpoint.

The So Safe Corps Commander who advised residents especially the motorcyclist, the commuters and the passengers to always prioritize their security and safety also stressed the need for passengers to desist from using their phones while on bike.

He listed items recovered from the suspect to include one unregistered hijacked red motorbike and a locally made gun 

Dr Ganzallo pointed out that the suspect had been transferred to the Nigeria Police, Idiroko Divisional Police Headquarter for further investigation and likely prosecution.

Ogun State government has advised gas operators to follow due process before laying gas pipelines and optic fibres on road setbacks, to promote the harmonious development of the physical environment within the state.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Olatunji Odunlami gave the advice during a stakeholders’ meeting with Gas Pipeline Operators and allied companies, at the ministry’s Conference Room in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Mr Odunlami who noted that the step became imperative for the operators to regularly update the ministry on their activities, said such information could be considered when further projects especially road extensions and construction of drainages were being executed by the government or private establishments.

He explained that the ministry’s regulatory responsibilities covered all developments within the state, whether on land or under the ground, saying a database of gas pipelines and optic fibres has been instituted.

The commissioner added that the database would be included in the preparation of the Master Plan for different areas of the state.

Responding, the representative of Nigerian Downstream Mainstream Petroleum Regulating Agency, Mr Oluwafemi Adebowale appreciated the decision of the ministry on regular review of permits and approval along the routes to avoid conflicts, calling on the operators to promptly carry out their activities in accordance with the dictates of the government.

Men of the Ogun state Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Segun Omotosho Ebenezer for allegedly beating his 42-year-old wife Omotosho Oluwabukola to death.

  According to a statement by the state Public Relations officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, the arrest followed a complaint by the elder sister of the deceased at the kemta divisional headquarters on the 14th of this month.

  Mr Oyeyemi said that the complainant reported that the suspect had beaten the deceased and inflicted serious injuries on her.

  According to the report, the deceased was subsequently rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Idi-aba, Abeokuta, by the suspect for medical attention but eventually died while receiving treatment.

  The state PPRO explained that the deceased had recorded a voice note and sent it to her family members alleging that the suspect used a padlock to hit her on the head while beating her and that if she dies, he should be held responsible for her death.

  Mr Oyeyemi stressed that the suspect had taken to his heels after the voice note was played to his hearing, but the intelligence efforts of the detectives of the division led to his prompt arrest at Akinseku village, Abeokuta.

  He noted that preliminary investigation revealed that, the deceased’s refusal to allow her husband who is a carpenter to take control of a school privately built by her, an NCE holder, in her name and that of her husband’s resulted in the incessant quarrel.

  Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole has directed that the suspect be transferred to homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

Ogun State-owned security outfit, So-Safe Corps, has arrested a 32-year-old Ojo Fagbenro for allegedly robbing traders and hijacking motorbikes in the State.

The Public Relations of the Corps, Mr Moruf Yusuf said in Abeokuta that the suspect was arrested while trying to rob the law-abiding citizens selling phone accessories on the bridge at Abule Ekun, Giwa, along Ijoko Road in Ifo Local Government Area. 

Mr Yusuf said the suspect during preliminary Investigation confessed to the crime and claimed to be the Number three of the deadly Eye confraternity in the Area. 

He pointed out that the suspect also confessed to being part of the group that allegedly killed one Gabriel Frank on Monday, 14th November 2022 at Iju-Ishaga.

Mr Yusuf who listed items recovered from the suspect to include one locally made pistol, charms and a small bag said he had been handed over to Ajuwon Police Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and likely prosecution.

A 30-year-old Prophet of Cherubim and Seraphim church Ajuwon, Joseph Ogundeji has been arrested by men of Ogun state Police Command for allegedly defiling two underage sisters who are members of his church. 

The suspect was apprehended after the father of the two underage girls had reported at Ajuwon divisional headquarters that Prophet Joseph Ogundeji had allegedly impregnated his 16-year-old daughter and defiled his 13-year-old daughter.

The Police Public Relations officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement in Abeokuta.

Mr Oyeyemi explained that the victims alleged that the suspect used to give them something to lick, and after licking it, they will sleep off only to wake up and discover that the prophet had had sex with them.

The command spokesman also noted that the victims claimed that suspect threatened to kill them if inform anyone.

He pointed out that the prophet had admitted that he actually committed the crime. 

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be transferred to anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has promised to strengthen its surveillance activities to regulate unprofessional conduct among road users and sustain effective patrol operations across the country 

The Acting Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Mr Dauda Ali-Biu made the promise while flagging off this year’s ember months campaign at the Ita Oshin, Abeokuta motor park Ogun State. 

The campaign, according to the FRSC became imperative in view of the expected increase in human and vehicular movements across the country during the last quarter of the year, known as the ember months, ushering in the festive period.

The ember months campaign was aimed at sensitizing motorists and other stakeholders in the transportation sector to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations in a bid to reduce carnage on the road.

Addressing the stakeholders in the sector, The FRSC Acting Corps Marshal, Mr Dauda Ali-Biu said 800 patrol vehicles, 100 ambulances, 27 tow trucks and 83 motorbikes aside from other tools had been deployed for the campaign exercise.

Mr Ali-Biu who described reckless driving as a threat to the state of road infrastructure encouraged road users to desist from acts that could hinder the success of the campaign.

Mr Ali-Biu commended the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration towards the massive deployment of resources for the construction of new roads and rehabilitation of existing ones across the country which he noted was designed towards promoting the safety of lives of the commuters. 

Flagging off the campaign, Governor Dapo Abiodun said there was a need for a continued sensitization campaign to encourage road users to adopt precautionary measures towards reducing road mishaps in the country.

Governor Abiodun who was represented by his Deputy, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele applauded the FRSC for putting in more efforts to promote safety on the roads through the ember months campaign and reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning the state’s transportation sector. 

The Acting Corps Marshall had earlier paid a courtesy call on the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo who urged the Corps to combat the incessant impunity among the riders and motorists moving against traffic especially, around the Kara bridge along the Lagos – Ibadan expressway.

Ogun State Police Command has arrested one Taofeek Sulaiman for having unlawful carnal knowledge of his thirteen years old stepdaughter.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Mr Oyeyemi Abimbola, the suspect was arrested after a complaint by the mother of the victim.

The spokesman said the woman complained that her daughter told her that the suspect had been having sex with her and threatening to kill her if she reported it to anyone. 

Mr. Oyeyemi said the victim was taken to Idi Iroko General Hospital by the Police for medical attention.

He also stated that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lanre Bankole, has directed the transfer of the case to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour for further investigation.

Ogun State Government has cautioned residents of lowlands areas affected by flooding including Isheri, Warewa, Magboro, and Arepo among others not to drink from well and borehole waters in the areas to prevent cholera and other waterborne diseases.

The state Commissioner for Environment, Mr Ola Oresanya gave the caution when he visited the border towns with a view to finding an immediate solution to the problem.

He said the appeal became necessary as the flood had contaminated the water sources and facilities through chemical contaminants such as fuel, pesticides, and metals as well as pathogens in sewage, cemeteries, septic tanks and dead animals.

The commissioner announced that the state government will embark on another round of dredging and clearing of drainage channels and waterways in the affected areas.

Mr. Oresanya blamed the flooding on uncontrolled development and the carefree attitude of some residents to critical environmental issues such as waste management.

The Commissioner also debunk the rumour going around that the excess release of water from Oyan Dam in Abeokuta led to flooding in the border towns.

The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo has advocated an increase in the Ogun State budgetary allocations to the health and education sectors.

Oba Gbadebo made the call in Abeokuta at the Egba Divisional Town Hall Meeting on the 2023 – 2025 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and the 2023 Budget. 

The traditional ruler, who advised the government to give priority to the health sector, also called for the review of the state’s education budget from thirteen per cent to twenty-two per cent and urged the government to pay urgent attention to the DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic  Itori. 

Responding, Governor Dapo Abiodun said his administration was committed to meeting the fifteen per cent budget benchmark for the education sector and working with the relevant stakeholders to strengthen the sector. 

Governor Abiodun explained that his administration had institutionalized various policies towards maintaining an optimal balance between capital and recurrent expenditure, to achieve macro-economic stability and sustainable development.

He appealed to the people of Egba Division to continue to promote peaceful co-existence and unity while urging the youths to shun social vices.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has said that his administration will soon launch the state Education Trust Fund as part of efforts to provide more infrastructure in all public schools across the state.

Governor Abiodun stated this at Oke Mosan Abeokuta while receiving the management of the best Public School in the country, Saint Michael’s African Church Primary School 1, Ota,  and other awardees at the 2022 National Teachers’ and Schools’ Excellence Awards to commemorate this year’s World Teacher Day.

While pointing out that his administration had introduced various reforms and processes in the education sector, Governor Abiodun described the achievement as a manifestation of the investment and commitment of his government in the sector. 

The Governor who said that his administration had rehabilitated over 1,000 public schools, gave the assurance that his government would continue to give priority to the education sector.

In an interview, Mr. Owolabi Adelana from Ijebu Muslim College Junior, Ijebu-Ode, who emerged as the second-best teacher in the country in the Public Schools category, expressed delight and commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for providing a conducive learning environment in public schools across the state.

It would be recalled that the Saint Michael’s African Church Primary School 1, Ota, emerged as the best public school in the country and won an 18-seat bus, while a teacher from a private secondary school in Odogbolu, Mr. Tajudeen Ayantola emerged as the best private school teacher in the country.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says about 40 thousand new jobs have been generated by his administration with the injection of thirty-six new investment portfolios into the state’s economy. 

Governor Abiodun, who made this known in Abeokuta at the inauguration of the State Investment and Facilitation Agency, said the worth of the new investments was above One billion dollars. 

Governor Abiodun, who doubles as the Agency’s Board Chairman, gave the assurance that the move would attract more local and foreign investors and urged the members to regard their appointment as a call to selfless service. 

The Governor also announced that his government would soon begin the construction of the Special Agro Processing Zone.

In a remark, the state Commissioner for Finance, Mr Dapo Okubadejo pointed out that the mandate of the board was to project the state as a preferred investment destination of choice.

A 14-member Committee on Building Construction Code 2022 has been inaugurated by the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Presenting draft copies of the Code to representatives of stakeholders in the building industry in Abeokuta, the commissioner in the ministry, Mr Olatunji Odunlami noted that the Building and Construction Code 2022 was derived from the National Building Code of 2005.

Mr Odunlami explained that the representatives of stakeholders in the committee would be allowed to make contributions to the draft before being forwarded to the House of Assembly for consideration.

He expressed optimism that the Building and Construction Code 2022 would eliminate to the barest minimum the incidences of ‘collapsed building syndrome’ in Nigeria, and promote safety and qualitative housing for every Nigerian.

Mr Odunlami called on the newly inaugurated committee members to study the document presented to them and make inputs from their areas of core competencies to achieve an inclusive, robust and acceptable code for the State to complement the existing legislature.

Ogun State government has concluded plans to develop old buildings across the state through the “regeneration scheme” initiative.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Olatunji Odunlami, made this known during a stakeholders’ meeting organised by Ogun State Slum Regeneration Authority on the regeneration scheme of a hundred metres Itoku-Ikija corridor, at Olumo Rock Tourist Complex Auditorium in Abeokuta.

Mr Odunlami explained that, the scheme was designed to assist indigenes to redevelop their family property as well as developers who aim at putting up buildings in the areas.

The Commissioner who noted that, the scheme would not require taking lands of the people in the area, said the initiative was also designed to boost the tourist appeal, socio-economic landscape through increased trade and commercial activities of the state.

In a remark,  the Acting General Manager, Ogun State Slum Regeneration Authority, Abiola Ayodele, maintained that, strict adherence and implementation of the plans are essential to modernise the community and attract investors.

Responding, the Osile of Oke-Ona Egba, Oba  Adedapo Tejuoso, represented by Oluwo Oke-Ona Egba, Chief Samson Ogunmade, appreciated the government for including the community in its infrastructural and developmental plans.

He appealed to the government not to relent in its efforts at ensuring good roads in the hinterland, particularly, the linking road to their community.

Operatives of Ogun State-owned security outfit, SO SAFE Corps, have arrested five men for allegedly stealing Automotive Gas Oil known as Diesel. 
The suspects, Abdullah Mohamed, Lambo Lack, Joel Dawab,  Wellplus Masua, and Seidu Ibrahim were arrested at a Road Construction Company site in  Siun in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state. 

The State Commander of Corps, Dr Soji Ganzallo confirmed the arrest of the suspects in a statement in Abeokuta.
Dr Ganzallo listed items recovered from the suspects to include 8 kegs of 30 Litres Keg containing the already siphoned Diesel.

He pointed out that the suspects and the items recovered had been handed over to the Police Owode Police Divisional Headquarters for immediate prosecution.

Gunmen have kidnapped three policemen in Ogun State Command in broad daylight.

Newsmen gathered that the police officers were abducted on Thursday at Wasinmi, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Findings have shown that the kidnapped cops arrived in Ogun State from Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos State, for an investigation.

They were said to have been duly booked at the police division in Wasinmi before they left for their place of primary assignment.

A police source told our correspondent that the officers, led by Inspector Oladipo Olayemi, were kidnapped on the road by their abductors, who allegedly accosted them at about 2:30 pm.

The source said the commercial driver, who conveyed the cops, escaped by a whisker from the kidnappers.

It was further gathered that the Divisional Police Officer in Ewekoro had led his men in search of the missing policemen.

When contacted, the Ogun State Police Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

Oyeyemi said, “People were kidnapped, but only one policeman is involved.“

Oyeyemi added that the police are on the kidnappers’ trail, assuring the victims would be rescued.

“We are on the trail of the kidnappers. Do you think we are going to keep quiet? We will get them and rescue the victims unhurt,” he said.

The third in the series of Dangote Bag of Goodies Consumer Promo has produced more millionaires in Ogun State with a bricklayer, Mr. Imole Akinbode and a teacher Mr. Abolarin Sunday winning five million naira prize individually, alongside 5 others that received one million naira each.

Some residents also got consolation prizes, including refrigerators, standing fans and electricity generators from the cement bag scratch cards with alphabets spelling Dangote.

At the presentation of prizes to the winners held at Methodist theological Seminary playing field, Sagamu, the Lagos and Ogun regional Director of the Company, Mr. Dolapo Alli said about thirty two point five million units of prizes had been procured for the promo with the aim of showing appreciation to the consumers.

Mr Alli who said the promo was also to assist the customers in cushioning the effects of the prevailing economic reality in the country urged other Nigerians to patronize Dangote cement to be able to benefit in the promo that would end in the last week of October this year.

One of the five million naira cash prize winners, Mr. Sunday Abolarin, a teacher and retail cement seller while speaking with newsmen canvassed more patronage for Dangote cement which he noted had proven to be reliable and should be commended for ploughing back to the society.

The prizes redemption ceremony was witnessed by representatives of the National Lottery Agency, Mr. Afam Ojeh, some staff of Dangote Cement Lagos and Ogun regional office as well as distributors from within and outside Ogun State.

In a bid to promote the health insurance scheme among residents irrespective of occupation, the Ogun State Health Insurance Ambassador, Mr Odunlade Adekola, has taken the campaign to major markets in the state capital.

 The ace Nollywood actor, Adekola, in the company of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr Tayo Lawal, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Kayode Oladehinde, Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Health Insurance Agency, Dr Afolabi Dosumu and his counterpart in the Primary Healthcare Development Board, Dr Elijah Ogunsola, among others went on a road show within the Abeokuta metropolis to sensitize people about the scheme. 

The train which touched down at Kuto Market, Sapon, Omida, Itoku, Lafenwa and Oke-Ilewo, had the commuters, passersby, and market women expressing their joy on sighting the Nigerian actor who freely danced and took ” selfies” with many of them.

Mr Adekola, who encouraged the people to embrace the scheme, described the present administration’s investment in the health sector as a reference point.

He explained that the monthly payment of the sum of one thousand per head and four thousand for a family of six would help fast-track government efforts towards achieving universal health coverage.

Speaking with newsmen, the Executive Secretary, Ogun State Health Insurance Agency, Dr Dosumu, said that the road show would be replicated in all the four zones of the state, noting that Yewa, Ijebu and Remo should expect Odunlade Adekola in their locations as well.

Dr Dosumu explained that the purpose of the roadshow was to create awareness that would sink into people’s minds.

The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operation Unit, Zone A has intercepted two tankers laden with 80,055 litres of adulterated diesel in Ijebu Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Speaking, the acting Comptroller of the Unit, Hussein Ejibunu, said the drivers of the trucks flee upon sighting the customs officers on patrol and that the petroleum product has been handed over to the officials of Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency.

The Customs boss said the petroleum product is of poor standard after its sample was collected and tested by NMDPRA, adding that the papers that were used to convey it were also fake.

Giving a breakdown of the seizures and particulars of means of conveyance, the Acting Controller said one of the tankers with registration number DBT 599 XA was laden with 44,450 litres while the other one with registration number USL 561 ZC had 35,605 litres of diesel.

Ejibunu warned that FOU Zone A area will always be a ‘no-go-area’ for smugglers, duty evaders and perpetrators of other illegal activities.

He advised Nigerians to be patriotic and shun any form of commercial activity that runs afoul of the law.

Reacting, Patrick Musa, an official of the NMDPRA while receiving the seizures explained that the products were found to be off specification and fell below approved standards for use in Nigeria.

He added that the product could not have been lifted from any approved depots within the country.

Musa commended the NCS for the seizure which he described as the good beginning of a productive synergy between NMDPRA and the NCS.

The police in Ogun State have arrested a 46-year-old man, Mr Olusegun Oluwole over the allegations of forcefully having carnal knowledge of his 17-year-old daughter.

The suspect reportedly defiled the teenager in their one-room residence in the Amọ́láṣọ area of Abeokuta, the state capital, around half past eleven in the night when the victim was asleep.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed this to journalists said the affected daughter, one of the 6 children of the suspect had reported the matter at the Ibara Police Station, accompanied by men of the Ogun State security outfit.

Mr Oyeyemi maintained that the man whose arrest was effected by the Divisional Police Officer, Ibara division, Mr Bernard Egbondiya, had confessed to the commission of the crime, but pleaded for forgiveness while claiming that he didn’t know what came over him.

The PPRO explained that the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Departments, CID, for further investigation and possible prosecution on the directive of the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole while the victim had been taken to the Hospital for medical treatment.
