Brightsville College Ibadan has won the FRCN Kids Football Challenge for a second consecutive time after defeating Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo in the final of the second edition of the challenge.

In a tense final played at the Olubadan stadium, Ibadan, Brightsville College Ibadan won 3-2 on penalties after the game ended goalless in regulation time.

Brightsville, who also won the tournament last year, has now emerged winner of both the first and second editions.

Olivet Baptist High School, which won the Oyo zone, had to settle for the overall second position, while Government College Ibadan trashed Baptist Secondary school, Okesanmi 5 nil to claim third place.

Speaking after the games, the All Progressives Congress candidate for Ibadan Southwest State Constituency 2, Mr Idris Abiola-Ajimobi, who was a special guest, lauded Radio Nigeria for organizing the competition.

Mr Abiola-Ajimobi urged the students to take full advantage of the competition to sharpen their talents for future purposes.

Also speaking, Zonal Director, Radio Nigeria Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr Dominic Mokikan, represented by the Deputy Director, Marketing Department of the zone, Mr Adewale Afinjuomo, said the competition was part of the station’s commitment towards grooming and development of young talents in the society.

Highlights of the day were the presentation of trophies and medals to the winner, first and second runners-up, as well as, the presentation of individual awards to outstanding players.

Muhammed Obadare from Community Commercial High School, Ilora was crowned the most valuable player of the tournament, Joshua Kilani of Government College Ibadan emerged as the highest goal scorer with 5 goals, while Brightsville Shot stopper, Quyum Olasupo won the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

Our correspondent reports that both the highest goal scorer and the best goalkeeper were also presented cash gifts, courtesy of Mr Idris Abiola-Ajimobi.

Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo has won the FRCN Kids Football Challenge, Oyo zone.

Olivet Baptist High School defeated Baptist High School Okesanmi by 2 goals to 1 to emerge champion of the zone.

They will now play Brightsville College Ibadan in the final of the second edition of the competition on Saturday, 28th January, this year at the Olubadan stadium, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

Meanwhile, Baptist High School Okesanmi will slug it out with Government College Ibadan on the same day in the third place match.

It would be recalled that Brightsville College Ibadan emerged winners of the competition for Ibadan zone last year, while Government College Ibadan finished as runners up.

Olivet Baptist High School topped Group C with 6 points, while Community High School Fiditi finished as runner-up.

In Group D, Baptist High School Okesanmi finished on top with 5 points, while Community Commercial High School Ilora finished second with 4 points.

In today’s fixtures, Olivet Baptist High School will play Community Commercial High School Ilora, while Baptist High School Okesanmi tackles Community High School Fiditi.

Olivet Baptist High school, Oyo has won the third place match of FRCN Ibadan kids football Challenge. 

Olivet Baptist High school came from a one goal down to defeat Loyola College,  Ibadan by two goals to one. 

Olamide Okunola had opening scoring for Loyola College in the first half of play while Samson Olanrenwaju equalised for Olivet Baptist High school few minutes later. 

Mojeeb Oguntona put Olivet Baptist High school ahead in the second half and all attempts by Loyola College to equalise did not materialize. 

The final match between Brightville College, Ibadan and Ilora community commercial school, Oyo is ongoing.

Trophies and cash prizes would be won by winners.

Returning missionary and private schools to the owners is one of the ways to revive the current dwindling standard of education in the country.

The Afenifere leader and founder of Akure High school, Pa Reuben Fasoranti gave the advice at Akure while receiving award from the national body of Old Students Association of Olivet Baptist High school, Oyo State.

The nonagenarian maintained that the vision for establishing such schools could hardly be fulfilled without the founders

On the Life Time Achievements Award, Pa Fasoranti appreciated the old students for the recognition particularly his contributions to the education sector was still being remembered

Presenting the award, the second national Vice President of the old students, Mr Lanre Fadahunsi said the life time Achievements Award was in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo and to recognize the selfless service of Pa Fasoranti, the school principal in 1975.

Highpoints of the occasion was presentation of the book, authored by Pa Fasoranti “my life, my legacy” as souvenirs to the old students.

The old students who represented Association of Old Students of Olivet Baptist High school Oyo included the General Manager, Gold FM, Ilesa, Osun state, Mr Adedamola Tinubu, Engr Olusola Àjàó, Mr Oyetunde Atoyebi, Mr Bade Muhammed, Adisa Adekunle, and Tajudeen Ifatunmibi.

Olorunferanmi Odofin
