Popular Ibadan-based photographer, Pa David Owolabi Ositelu, better known and called “Born Photo”, is dead.

According to Oloye ‘Lekan Alabi, the Ekefa Olubadan of Ibadanland, who made this known on behalf of the deceased family, the Ogere Remo-born elder statesman “died peacefully” in his Isale-Osi, Ibadan Studio.

He was aged 86, having been born on 25th December,1935, in his hometown, Ogere Remo, Ogun State.

Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has called for the preservation of the country’s cultural heritage.

Professor Osinbajo said this at the launch of Yoruba World Centre in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. 

Our correspondent reports that the event which was held at the University of Ibadan was attended by eminent sons and daughters of Yorubaland.

At the launch of the project, the vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo noted that the Yoruba race was embedded in the rich cultural and philosophical practices which must be preserved to ensure it never fades away.

Professor Osinbajo who lauded the initiative called for a comprehensive collation of cultural materials that are archival in nature.  

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State who was represented by his deputy, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan urged the management of the proposed centre to avoid distortion of facts in data collection regarding cultural materials. 

Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and Olubadan of Ibadan land who was represented by Ekefa Olubadan, Oloye Lekan Alabi said the dreams of reviving the Yoruba culture have been fulfilled with the proposed Yoruba world Centre.

Also speaking, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Gani Adams stressed the need for the Yoruba race to lay a solid cultural foundation for the coming generations.

When completed, the Yoruba World Centre will have a standard library, an archive, a museum, a recreation, reconstruction and digital centre, a broadcasting and film village, and an artificial zoo.

President, Society for Animal Rights Protection, Dr. Ibikunle Faramade wants hunters to abide by the ethics of hunting.

Dr. Faramade made this known in Ibadan at a seminar to commemorate World Animal Day with the theme “Hunting Best Practices: Panacea to Wild Animals Species Sustainability. 

He noted that it was unfortunate that some animals had become endangered species due to the unethical practices of hunters.

Dr. Faramade said the stakeholders of Animal rights Protection would continue to come up with modalities to safeguard the lives of the endangered species. 

The chairman on the occassion, who is also the Ekefa Olubadan of Ibadan, Oloye Lekan Alabi enjoined people to always treat animals they are rearing as pets or for commercial purposes with care.

Speaking on behalf of hunters in Ibadan, the Balogun Olu Ode of Ibadan, Mr Asimiyu Ogundeji explained that the seminar had broaden their horizon on the types of animals to be hunted.

The seminar featured various Presentations on Traditional  hunting Ethics and laws regulating hunting and Game Reserves in Nigeria.

Late Dr. Lekan Are has been described as a rare gem and a wonderful person.

The prominent businessman died at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan on the 18th of this month.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, the Otun Olubadan, Senator Lekan Balogun described Dr. Are as an industrious man, who contributed immensely to the growth of Ibadanland and nation at large.

In his reaction, an alumnus of the deceased’s Alma-Mata, Government College Ibadan, Oloye Lekan Alabi said though the news was saddening, but death is inevitable for every man, praying that God would cause his soul to rest in peace.

Dr. Lekan Are who was an agronomist and a director with Punch Newspaper, Kakanfo Inn and University Press PLC died at the age of 86 years.
