Oyo Govt. Poised to Give Olunloyo Befitting Burial

Oyo State governor, Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde has disclosed that officials of the state government and the immediate family of the late Dr Victor Omololu Olunloyo would work out modalities to give the elder statesman a befitting state burial.

The governor stated this when he paid a condolence visit to the family of the late former governor of the state at his Molete residence.

He said that the state government had nominated three officials to liaise with the family on the date and other parts of the planning, as Olunloyo would be given a state burial. 

Governor Makinde, who extolled the virtues of the late former governor, emphasized his invaluable contributions to the development of the state.

He also expressed joy that he had the privilege of benefiting from Dr Olunloyo’s wealth of knowledge, stressing that the state government would give him the honour he deserved and uphold his legacies.

Governor Makinde also paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Seriki Musulumi of Yorubaland, Chief Yekini Ayoade Adeojo, at the Adeojo’s Iyaganku residence.

Special prayers were offered for the repose of the souls of the two elder statesmen and for the families they left behind.

Nigerians Describe Olunloyo as Great Mentor

Prominent Nigerians have continued to throng the Molete, Ibadan residence of former governor of old Oyo state, Dr Omololu Olunloyo, who died early Sunday morning during a brief illness.

Radio Nigeria correspondent, who visited the residence of the deceased, reports that the atmosphere was a celebration of a life well spent.

One of the early callers to the house of the late former governor was the secretary to the state government, SSG, in his twenty-four-man cabinet during his tenure as governor of Oyo state in 1983, Chief Shuaib Oyedokun.

Chief Oyedokun who paid glowing tribute to the deceased, noted that Dr Olunloyo was a compassionate man who was ready for governance during his short stay in office.

He stressed that, even though the late Olunloyo was a tough looking personality, he had a profound sense of humor.

Another early caller at the deceased residence was the speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin, who maintained that Dr Olunloyo was a mentor whose legacy would never be forgotten in the state.

To the former deputy governor of the state, who was also one of the visitors, Chief Hazeem Gbolarumi, the deceased kept a low profile during his lifetime concentrating more on reading and family.

The wife of the late former governor, Mrs Aderonke Olunloyo, said her husband was a complete gentleman who was unassuming.

Dr Olunloyo died in the early hours of Sunday aged 89 years old.
