Three former State Governors have joined the list of eminent Nigerians who have paid a congratulatory visit to the Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja at his Private Residence in Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State. 

They were Senator Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State and Dr. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Aregbesola, a former Minister of Interior and currently National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, said his visit was to pay homage to the incoming Olubadan of Ibadanland, considering his immense contributions to the society. 

Corroborating the former Governor of Osun State, Dr Mimiko described Oba Ladoja as a great man with track records of achievements. 

In a separate visit, former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Senator Daniel maintained that Oba Ladoja was a great politician and Governor when they both served. 

Senator Daniel narrated how they both worked together to protect South Western heritage from collapsing and going into extinction, adding that Oba Ladoja will surely use his wealth of experience to further develop Ibadan and beyond. 

Responding, Oba Ladoja, said, service to humanity and contributions to the society have always been his priority, therefore solicited the prayers of everyone for a successful reign.

Four governors from the Peoples Democratic Party PDP have visited former Ondo state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko to persuade him back to the party ahead of 2023 elections.

The governors are Aminu Tambuwal Of Sokoto,  Nyesome Wike of River, Seyi Makinde of Oyo ; and Okezie lkpeazu of Abia State.

The governors held a closed door meeting with Dr Mimiko at his residence in Ondo town.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, governor Tambuwal said the visit was aimed at bringing like minds together to rescue the country from its current challenges.

Reacting, Dr Mimiko explained that he would carry along his political structures across the state, before taking final decision on his return to the PDP.

The Bishop of Ondo Anglican Diocese, Right Reverend Stephen Oni gave the admonition at the burial service of the former Minister of Information, Chief Alexander Akinyele which took place at All Saints Anglican Church, Ogbonkowo, Ondo kingdom.

Bishop Oni who spoke on the topic, “The Choice Is Yours: Translation or Condemnation”, described death as a passage to an appointment of no return hence man should please God and continually live a life of reflection.

The Bishop described late Akinyele as a man of influence who impacted lives and called on those in positions of authority to live a life that pleases God and better humanity.

The Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, represented by the Director, Human Resource Management in the ministry, Mr. Sunday Ewa, said Chief Akinyele’s contributions to nation-building would remain indelible.

Also speaking at the service, a former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko who described late Chief Akinyele as an illustrious son of Ondo kingdom said he would be greatly missed.

The children in separate interviews with Radio Nigeria said the demise of their father had left a vacuum that would be difficult to fill.

Dignitaries at the burial service included Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the Osemawe of Ondo kingdom, Oba Dr. Victor Kiladejo represented by his wife, Ondo high chiefs, the Director General, Radio Nigeria, Dr. Mansur Liman represented by Zonal Director Radio Nigeria, Ibadan, Alhaji Mohammed Bello, and other top government functionaries.

The home of Afenifere leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti is filled with sympathisers who came to condole with the elder statesman over the death of his 58 years old daughter, Mrs. Funke Olakunrin who was killed by unknown gunmen along Lagos-Ore expressway on Saturday.

The sympathisers who besieged the old man’s house in Akure as early as six o’clock in the morning were overwhelmed with grief over the incident.

Some of the dignitaries that have paid condolence visits included the former Ondo state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, former speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Dr. Bakita Bello, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP National Vice Chairman Southwest, Chief Eddy Olafeso, PDP chairman in Ondo state, Chief Clement Faboyede, and some clerics within the state.

A condolence register has also been opened at the entrance of Chief Fasoranti’s house while sympathisers stood in groups discussing the incident.

In an interview the former speaker, Dr. Bakita Bello who described the killing as unfortunate called on the Federal government to rise up to the insecurity challenge facing the southwest region.

Also speaking, Chief Eddy Olafeso blamed the government for not being responsive in addressing killings of Nigerians by hoodlums.
