An 80-year-old woman, Ayodele Ogundipe, was found dead with her body parts dismembered on her farmland along the Oja-Odan/Ohunbe road in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The octogenarian, who had gone to her farm, was reported missing at the Oja Odan Divisional Police on Thursday, after she failed to return home.
The Ogun State police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, in Abeokuta stated that the command was alerted of the incident by her family.
Odutola stressed that a search party comprising of her family and community members was organised on Friday, leading to the discovery of her dismembered remains.
She revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Ogunlowo, had mandated a thorough investigation into the case in an attempt to piece together all of the events leading up to the death, which seemed to be a ritual killing.
The commissioner extended his condolences to the bereaved family and assured the public that justice would be pursued diligently.
