The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has unveiled an indigenous drug for the cure and prevention of viral infections. 

The drug named, Verozil which is available in capsules, blisters packs, and liquid was certified by the body regulating sales and use of drugs in Nigeria, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). 

Speaking during the launch at the Banquet Hall of Ooni’s Palace, Ile-Ife, Oba Ogunwusi said, it was a great day and privilege to unveil indigenous medicines noting that its potency had been tested and confirmed by government regulatory bodies.  

The monarch hinted that the herbal medications had been administered on lots of COVID-19 patients to boost their immune system including political leaders, noting that as the world celebrates the COVID-19 vaccine, Nigeria people are also unveiling indigenous solutions.

Earlier, in the address of a prominent herbal medicine practitioner, Chief Akintunde Ayeni, who worked in conjunction with the palace on the medications revealed that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi phoned him during the first wave of COVID-19 and inquired from him what he was doing in respect of the deadly virus.

He said Oba Adeyeye sent him some recipes that they could use in making indigenous supplement to fight COVID-19 which he studied and gave birth to what was being launched. 

Also, the Senior Special Assistant, SSA, to the President on Job Creation and Youth Employment in the Office of the Vice President of Nigeria, Mr Afolabi Imoukhuede, in his goodwill messages commended Oba Adeyeye for his commitment to local contents and passion for National development.

South-West governors and some first class traditional rulers in the Southwest zone of the country are currently holding a security meeting at the Executive Chamber of the Agodi Government Secretariat, Ibadan.

The meeting which commenced at about 3 pm has in attendance the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, Dr Kayode Fayemi, Governors Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Gboyega Oyetola of Osun and the host governor – Mr Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Among the traditional rulers that are participating in the meeting are the Ooni of Ife – Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; Alaafin of Oyo – Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; Akarigbo of Remo – Oba Babatunde Ajayi; Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom – Fedrick Akinrutan; Olubadan of Ibadan – Oba Saliu Adetunji and Olugbon of Orilegbon – Oba Francis Alao.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, in charge of the South-West – Mr David Folawuyo, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police – Ngozi Onadeko and other heads of security agencies in Oyo State are also in attendance.

The Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari – Professor Ibrahim Gambari; Inspector General of Police – Mohammed Adamu and the Director General of the Department of State Security, DSS – Yusuf Bishi could not make the journey to attend the meeting due to bad weather.

It is expected that the chairman of the Southwest governors’ forum, Governor Akeredolu will brief journalists at the end of the meeting.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II has admonished all stakeholders, particularly traditional rulers to prioritize youth development and capacity building, to create a greater future for the country.

Oba Ogunwusi, who is the Co-chairman, National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria(NCTRN), gave the admonition while playing host to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, at his Ile Oodua Palace, Ile-Ife.

He called on Nigerian leaders to surrender themselves to the youth because they owned the country and were the future that must be built today.

The monarch said Youth development remained a venture that could be undertaken by traditional rulers and influential individual in there domain without requiring government support and intervention.

Oba Ogunwusi, who commended the peaceful transition that ushered in his visitor as the Emir of Kano, also called for the sustenance of cordial relationship among traditional rulers in Nigeria, which he noted had promoted the peaceful coexistence of the country.

Earlier in his speech, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero thanked Ooni Ogunwusi for providing great leadership across Yoruba race and Nigeria. 

He noted that a new channel for deepening cultural understanding between Yoruba people and their counterparts in the northern part of the country would be further created towards enhancing national unity and development.

The Emir of Kano suggested a cross exchange of ideas about new ways of tackling the issue of education, employment and social development amongst youths, noting that new ideas are found through cross-fertilization of ideas.

The Arole Oduduwa and Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, has fulfilled his promise to name his newly born prince after one of his predecessor, Sir Tadenikawo Adesoji Aderemi. 

The day which climaxed the first eight-day of the 3-week cultural rites traditionally observed at the Ile Oodua Palace of the Ooni of Ife for naming new born princes and princesses started with the traditional movement of the Ooni from his private residence in the palace to the sacred Yeyemoolu well to offer prayers and traditional rites before moving through various palace chambers.

At Ile Igbo, spiritual obeisance by the Isoros and other traditional rites were offered to formally welcome the royal baby to the Ife Royal Court and announce his names to the general public.

Custodians of various deities known as “Oba Isoro”,  Obas and Ife High-Chiefs offered prayers in the traditional way with items like sugarcane, Aadun, honey, dried fishes, money, pen, bitter colas, cola nuts, alligator peppers, snails, schnapps, water, palm oil, doves and other Yoruba core prayer items.

After the prayers and sacrifices, the Ooni consulted Ifa oracle through the Araba Agbaye, head of Ifa priests worldwide, before making the baby’s names public. 

Names of the prince handed by Araba Agbaye to High-Chief Lowa of Ife, Chief Adekola Adeyeye who officially pronounced them to the anxious crowd are: Tadenikawo, Adesoji, Aderemi, Eri-Ifeoluwasimi, Adeiwa, Inioluwa, Ademide, Adegbite, Diekoloreoluwa, son of Ogunwusi. 

The birth of the prince on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 was greeted by three phases of a 21-day traditional rites according to the dictates of Yoruba customs before it was rounded off within the premises of Ile Oodua Palace of the Ooni.

The Lowa Adimula of Ife who presented the baby’s names to the public said the traditional rites which started a week ago would be concluded after 21 days from birth, saying it has become important for people to understand the culture and traditions of naming princes following the legacy established by Oduduwa Olofin Adimula, the progenitor of the Yoruba race. 

Ooni Ogunwusi had pledged to name his prince after the 49th Ooni of the 3rd dynasty and First African Governor of the old Western Region in Nigeria, Sir Tadenikawo Adesoji Aderemi who reigned as Ooni from 1930 to 1980.

Madam Comfort Faramobi Ajoke Olasoji, the maternal grandmother of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has died at the age of 103.

A statement by the Ooni’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Mr Moses Olafare, disclosed that ‘mama agba’ as fondly called, gave up the ghost at her residence in Ile-Ife on Saturday night at the age of 103 years.

The statement said mama was a prominent trader, selling foodstuffs at Oja Itaakogun, Oja Titun and other markets in Ile-Ife and environs in her active years.

It described Mama as a disciplined, and committed Christian who spent her life for the service of God and humanity.

She is survived by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and her burial has been slated for next week Saturday at her residence in Ile-Ife.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has donated four Motorised Modular Fumigation Vans and one Fumigation Drone to Ekiti State Government to contain the spread of coronavirus in the state.

Presenting the fumigation vans, Oba Ogunwusi described the gesture as part of measures from the traditional institution to complement government’s efforts in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.

The Royal Father, who challenged Nigerians on hygienic lifestyle, said that the current health situation across the world needed concerted efforts, urging individuals to always observe the guidelines and rules to prevent the spread of the virus.

He explained that the chemical in the vans was not poisonous or toxic, but had capacity to disinfect virus in the society.

Oba Ogunwusi noted that the Motorised Modular vans and drone could be used for Agriculture purposes, like spraying of liquid fertilizers, irrigation, disinfecting fungus on the plants among others.

Responding, the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi appreciated the leader of the traditional institution in Yoruba Land and urged well-meaning individuals to emulate the Ooni of Ife.

Dr Fayemi stressed that the materials donated would go a long way to prevent, control and overcome the coronavirus in the state.

The four Motorised Modular Fumigation Vans and one drone is the initiative of Home Odudua Machine Tools.

Osun State Police Command has inaugurated the Community Police Committee

Speaking at the event which was held at the Osun State Police Headquarters in Osogbo, the state governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola said the government would support every effort aimed at incorporating the grassroots into their own security.

Mr Oyetola who was represented by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftain Affairs, Prince Bayo Adeleke also charged local government authorities and the traditional rulers to support the police in this regards.

The governor expressed confidence in improved security of lives and property with the renewed coming on board of the community policing initiatives.

In his welcome address, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Johnson Kokumo said the initiatives were aimed at making the people more active in their own security.

The Police Commissioner explained that the Federal Government was committed to ensuring the effectiveness of the community policing as a potent tool to protect lives and security.

Mr Kokumo charged the various communities to take ownership of the initiative by supporting the police to make the whole state safe.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi who was represented by the Lowa of Ile Ife, said since the people knew themselves and people in their domain, their security could not be the sole responsibility of police alone.

Similarly, another Monarch, the Eburu of Iba, Professor Adekunle Adeoogun commended the Federal government for recognising the relevance of the traditional rulers in the security of their kingdom.

The Chairman of the Harmonised Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Alhaji Ridwan Hussein warned against the politicisation of the community policing scheme.

Residents of some rural communities who attended the inauguration told Radio Nigeria that the people at the grassroots were happy with the development.

Foremost traditional rulers in Nigeria have advocated the need for improved roles for Traditional rulers in the security design of the country.

They spoke at the opening ceremony of the National Summit on Security and Insecurity in Nigeria, the role of the Traditional Institution, put together by the Center for Black Culture and International Understanding, Osogbo, Osun State.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has visited Ondo state to inaugurate some road projects funded by Chief Micheal Ade-Ojo Elizade in Ifedore Local Government Area of the state.

Some of the six kilometres road network constructed by the Founder of Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Chief Ade-Ojo included Ikota-Ilara-Mokin road and two Ilara township roads.

Inaugurating the projects, Mr. Fashola urged affluent Nigerians to emulate the great initiative of Chief Ade-Ojo who had singlehandedly developed his community with his personal wealth.

The minister also used the visit to explain that he was misquoted on a comment that federal roads surfaces were not as deplorable as the public portrayed them.

Mr. Fashola who explained that contrary to insinuations on social media, he had travelled round the country on roads to access condition of federal roads, maintained that the federal government would fix its bad roads based on its priority list.

In a remark, Chief Michael Ade-Ojo said he founded Elizade University and constructed some Ilara-Mokin township roads and to neighbouring towns like Ikota to immortalize his late wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Wuraola Ade-Ojo.

Other highlights of the event included the Sixteenth Elizabeth Wuraola Ade-Ojo Memorial Golf Tournament/Ondo Auto Rally, held at Ilara-Mokin and it was attended by dignitaries including Ondo State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu represented by his wife, Mrs. Betty Akeredolu, Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and the Alara of Ilara-Mokin, Oba Aderemi Adefehinti.
