Barely three weeks after the conduct of the Osun State Governorship Election, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said it had concluded plans to drag the Independent National Electoral Commission, the People’s Democratic Party and its candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke before Election Petition Tribunal.

The Chairman of the party, Prince Gboyega Famodun made the disclosure at a press conference, held at the party Secretariat, Osogbo, Osun state.

Prince Famodun stressed that based on the opinion of the party’s legal counsels the party had a very good case at the tribunal.

He said: “We are going to the Tribunal and our lawyers have let us know that we have good cases at the Tribunal.

Speaking on the anti-party activities allegations levelled against former Governor of the state and current Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and his supporters, Famodun said the party had set up the machinery to investigate the matter, assuring that all the erring party members shall be dealt with in accordance with party’s constitution.

“Whether the party’s constitution allows punishment of any erring member, as it is, there is room for discipline within the party constitution but it must be legally followed.

“We have set up the machinery to investigate the activities of these individuals in their different wards; we will get reports from the ward chairmen as to how they have been behaving in their wards in the past few years.

“They threw caution into the wind as they believe that what they are doing is quite right. So we called for the ward chairmen to write a report on all of them and the constitution of the party will be used to deal with their different offences as it occurs to us and that’s on that.

“If we remind you about how all the lieutenants and followers of Aregbesola had been boasting that they would ensure that Governor Oyetola would not be re-elected in the last July 16, 2022, governorship election.

“Surprisingly, Aregbesola and his supporters actually acted to type by openly campaigning and subsequently voting against Governor Oyetola in the election, which was part of the reasons for the current plight of our party in our state.

“It was on record that the Interior Minister never took part in any of our governorship campaigns while he also jetted out of the country during the election in order not to take part in such an important election in his state where he is the highest beneficiary by way of an appointment as a minister.

“As if that was not enough, the group under the chairmanship of one Elder Adebiyi Adelowo, the former state Acting Chairman of the APC, went into a wild jubilation after the declaration of the results of the governorship election where the national umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the winner of the election.”

Osun State Governor and the candidate of the All Progressive Congress in the July 16 Osun Governorship Election, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola has appealed to members of the party to be united.

Governor Oyetola made the appeal at a meeting with supporters and aggrieved members of the party following the infighting and apportioning of blame by members and supporters of the party over the defeat the party suffered in the just concluded governorship election in the state.

Party leaders, chieftains, members and supporters had been at loggerhead over the outcome of the poll.

Some dissatisfied members had blamed some notable chieftains of the party who are close to Governor Oyetola for causing the party’s defeat while others had been raining curses on those perceived to have worked against the success of the party.

The governor, who urged the party faithful to desist from public display of annoyance, charged APC members and supporters not to allow the outcome of the election to further cause division within the party, stressing that the APC remained the ruling party in the state.

Addressing the party men and women at the Government House, Osogbo, Governor Oyetola called for peace and unity at every stratum of the party.

He further advised party members, who had grievances, to channel them to the appropriate quarters and stop expressing them publicly, in the interest of the party.

As the incumbent state governor, Mr Oyetola stated that he would continue to govern with fear of God and love of the people, just as he reiterated his commitment to the well-being of the people and the development of the state.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of Osun has described as laughable the purported defection of the former Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Lasun Yusuf from the APC, noting that his defection is “good riddance to bad rubbish”.

The former Deputy Speaker had yesterday submitted his resignation letter to the APC party Secretariat, Ogo-Oluwa Osogbo.

The party said Osun APC remained unperturbed, and will not lose sleep over the defection of Hon Lasun from the APC, adding that, in the last 7 years, he added no value to the development of the party.

This reaction was contained in a statement issued from party’s Directorate of Publicity, Research and Strategy and signed by its Director, Kunle Oyatomi Esq and made available to Newsmen on Saturday in Osogbo, the state capital.

The Osun APC said the party will not, in any way, feel the absence of Hon Lasun Yusuf, adding that his defection is a blessing to the party.

“It is pertinent to tell the public what they already know that Hon Lasun Yusuf is a “noisemaker and  paperweight politician” whose mind has left the party since 2018 after he contested for governorship primary election and failed and he has consistently been failing to win elections,  even in his Poling Unit”.

“Our party will show Hon Yusuf that truly, he has no electoral value because, when he worked against the party, APC recorded so much electoral victories and the next election won’t  be an exemption”.

The party therefore, urged members of the APC to stay away from enemies of the party who portray themselves as party men but they are worse than those in opposition

Osun APC therefore, enjoined party members and supporters to be resolute in their support and “canvass for new loyal members into the party as our doors are widely open, for whoever wants to join.

Osun state Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, has again appealed to members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State to give peace a chance and allow the ongoing appeal process run its full course.

Mr Oyetola also condemned what he described as “unruly behavior” exhibited by some aggrieved members of the party at the APC Secretariat in Osogbo, saying no sane society would condone any act of lawlessness.

The Governor therefore directed security operatives to take charge of the party secretariat to prevent any further break down of law and order.

While sympathising with individuals who sustained injuries, he called on security operatives to fish out perpetrators and ensure justice was served.

In a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, on Saturday, the Governor noted that Osun and its people are known for peace and urged all to avoid acts that could tarnish the State’s reputable image.

He further noted that political intolerance was injurious to the unity and collective peace of the State.

While appealing for calm, the Governor also said that government would not tolerate any act of criminality or violence in any part of the State under the guise of politics or any guise whatsoever.

Osun State governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has canvassed mass participation in the All Progressives Congress, APC, membership registration and revalidation exercise.

Governor Oyetola stated this at the flag-off of the APC membership registration and revalidation exercise in Ila-Orangun and Iragbiji, the headquarters of Ila and Boripe Local Governments.

The governor said the registration exercise became necessary as it would afford the leadership of the party the opportunity to update the membership register of the party by accommodating new members while also enabling existing members to revalidate their membership.

He noted that the exercise would further help to expand the membership base of the party which, according to him, was in tandem with the reform that National Caretaker and Extra-ordinary/Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) put in place.

In his remarks, the former Governor of Osun State and pioneer interim APC National Chairman, Chief Abdul-Kareem Adebisi Akande, expressed profound gratitude to the leadership of the party for the honour of being the second person to register after President Muhammadu Buhari.

While urging the party leadership to make a huge success of the registration exercise which he said would determine the success of the party in future elections, the former governor charged the Governor Buni-led Caretaker Committee to resist all temptations of sit-tight syndrome.

Earlier, the leader of the APC Membership Registration and Revalidation Monitoring Committee in Southwest, Senator Lawali Shuaib, commended Chief Akande for being resolute and committed to democratic tenets and party’s principles since its establishment.

Senator Lawali noted that the choice of Ila Orangun, the home town of Chief Akande, as the venue for the southwest flag-off registration exercise, was a deliberate decision.
