Hundreds of residents of Osogbo capital of Osun State on Wednesday rushed to the Osun River at Gbodofon area to catch a glimpse of an unidentified middle-aged commercial motorcyclist who reportedly jumped into the river.

It was gathered that the incident happened around 4:15 PM when the motorcyclist suddenly stopped on the bridge, received a phone call and jumped into the river.

Our correspondent who visited the scene observed a large crowd of sympathisers standing in awe, wondering what could have pushed the motorcyclist to voluntarily jump into the high current river.

A witness named Taiwo Adebiyi told Radio Nigeria that “the Okada man was riding from Ogo-Oluwa side through Aregbe area when he stopped to receive a phone call on the bridge, threw his phone into the river and jumped into it without putting off the ignition.”

Divers are yet to arrive at the scene to commence a search around 5:02 pm Radio Nigeria left the scene.

However, the police were at the scene to take the motorcycle with registration number PKA 915 VI to their station.

A yet-to-be-identified middle-aged man suspected to be an armed robber has been killed and set ablaze in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

This is coming barely ten days after two suspected bike snatchers were killed and set ablaze at Lagere Area, Ile-Ife on December 4, 2020.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the incident happened on Sunday around 10:30 in the morning around Oke-Ogbo, Ilode Area, Ile-Ife.

The suspected armed robber had snatched a motorcycle from a commercial motorcyclist at gunpoint and was pursued by a mob who lynched him to death and set the lifeless body ablaze.

A witness who declined being mentioned told Radio Nigeria that two armed robbers were involved in the motorcycle snatching but one escaped while the other was killed by the mob.

The spokesperson of Osun State Police Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident.
