Osun State governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the health and well-being of the citizens.

Speaking at the flag-off of the 2020 long-lasting insecticide-treated nets distribution campaign, Governor Oyetola, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji said the development agenda of his administration was anchored on the people.

The governor stressed the importance of using the insecticide-treated nets in the fight against malaria, noting that the government would support every effort to ensure its distribution and correct use.

In a remark, the Director of Public Health, Federal Ministry of Health, Mrs Umo Ene-Obong thanked the government of the state for its commitment and efforts to improve the health of the people.

Mrs Ene-Obong appealed to traditional and religious leaders to promote a sustainable net culture against malaria in their communities.

Also speaking, Osun State Commissioner for Health, Doctor Isamotu Rafiu commended federal Ministry of Health and other partners for their contributions towards making distribution of long lasting insecticidal nets.

Doctor Isamotu enjoined the people to take full advantage of the insecticidal nets by using it for the purpose it was intended.

It will be recalled that the Federal Government of Nigeria and its Roll Back Malaria partners had, last month, donated about 3.2 million Insecticide-treated nets to Osun State.

Osun State Government says it has spent four billion naira out of the 6.2 billion naira grant given to the state by the World Health Organization, WHO, for the revitalization and rehabilitation of health care facilities in the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Doctor Rafiu isamotu disclosed this at inter-ministerial press briefing in Osogbo.

Doctor Isamotu said the state government had performed tremendously in the sector especially in the fight against coronavirus as well as rehabilitation of 315 primary health care centers across the state.

On his part, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr Remi Omowaye noted that Oyetola-led administration was passionate about the development of the state hence the need to embark on human and infrastructural development.

Mr Omowaye said the state had concluded plan to rebuild the burnt Atakumosa Market in Ilesa to enhance economic activities of the ancient community.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Mrs Bukola Olaboopo maintained that government had invested heavily in the welfare of women and children in the state in terms of empowerment and vocational training.

Mrs Olaboopo submitted that the ministry would collaborate with relevant agencies in order to make life more bearable and meaningful for women and children in the state.

In a remark, Osun State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode said inter-ministerial briefing would be holding on a monthly basis in the state.

Osun State Government has dispelled the rumour that another executive
council member tested positive for coronavirus.

Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo, Commissioner for Health, Doctor
Rafiu Isamotu said all executive members would be tested for the virus.

Doctor Isamotu hinted that the only member and Secretary to the State
Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, who tested positive recently, is
getting better.

The Secretary to the Osun State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, has tested positive for COVID-19.

The State’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Rafiu Isamotu, who made this known through a press statement in Osogbo also confirmed the discovery of 10 additional cases in the state. 

Dr Isamotu also added that one patient had equally been discharged after testing negative for the virus.

The commissioner noted that one of the reasons for the sudden rise in the Covid-19 cases in the state was largely due to the nonchalant attitude of residents to the laid-down precautionary measures against the spread of the virus. 

Dr Isamotu hinted that there were strong reasons to believe the state now has community transmission around Ilesa axis of the state, warning that unless citizens and residents change their ways, the government might be forced to impose another lockdown on the state. 

While noting that the 11 new cases were from the contact tracing of previous cases in the state, the Health Commissioner also revealed that with the latest development, the number of confirmed cases in the state had risen to 127 with 74 active cases.

Osun State government has confirmed another six new cases of Coronavirus.

The state Commissioner for Health, Doctor Rafiu Isamotu who stated this in a chat with newsmen in Osogbo, said one of the cases, a returnee from Ibadan, whose spouse lives in Owode-Ede died  before the result of his test was announced.

Doctor Isamotu noted that the remaining five cases, three had contact with an Osun-based Indian national whose status was confirmed on Friday. 

He further revealed that that the remains of the deceased returnee who had an underlying ailment had been buried by the family.

Doctor Isamotu said the Surveillance Unit of the State’s Covid-19 Team is already lining up contacts for tracing.

The Commissioner hinted that the state now has eleven active cases while out of the sixty cases confirmed, the state has successfully treated and discharged forty-four patients while five deaths had been recorded.

Osun state Government has confirmed two new cases of Coronavirus in the state.

A statement by the State Commissioner for Health, Doctor Rafiu Isamotu indicated that the two new patients were relatives of an earlier confirmed case from Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area of the state.

Doctor Isamotu said the detection of the additional two new cases has jerked up the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 49.

He noted that the state had successfully treated and discharged 36 patients while 4 deaths had been recorded since the outbreak of the pandemic in the state.

The commissioner hinted that the state now has nine active cases of the virus.
