Lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North constituency in the Oyo state house assembly, Hon. Olawunmi Oladeji says former governor of Oyo state, Otunba Christopher Alao-Akala has written his name on the sand of time.

Hon. Oladeji made this known while speaking with Radio Nigeria at a day of tribute organized by Oyo state political class in honour of the late APC leader in Oyo state.

The lawmaker who x-rayed the humane personality of the former governor said Otunba Alao-Akala was humorous, generous, compassionate and a kindhearted political stalwart who was endowed with amazing political skills.

Mrs Oladeji, the only female lawmaker in the 9th Oyo Assembly, said the late patriarch played significant roles in her sojourn in the political arena, noting that the mentorship acquired from Otunba Akala will not be forgotten in a moment.

She further explained that the father figure part of former governor Alao-Akala will be greatly missed by many.

The day of tribute had in attendance family members, friends, political gladiators and associates above party lines as well as well wishers.

Subsequent line up activities for the final burial ceremony which commenced on Monday, 14th Feb, include a lecture/day of tribute and praise night, on the 15th of February while lying in state and executive session comes up at the house of Chiefs secretariat, Ibadan on the 16th of February followed by a cultural display and parade.

Others activities are funeral service on Friday 18th February at Beulah Baptist Conference ground, Ogbomoso and Thanksgiving service on Sunday, 20th February, 2022 at Okelerin Baptist church Ogbomoso.

The remains of the late Olubadan of Ibadan has been laid to rest at his Popoyemoja residence, Ibadan according to Islamic rites. 

Prior to this, there was lying-in-state for late Oba Adetunji after Janazah prayer was offered for the soul of the monarch led by the Chief Imam of Ibadan, Alhaji Abdul Ganiy Agbotomokekere at the ancient Mapo Hall, Ibadan.

In a sermon, the Chief Imam of Ibadan, Abdul Ganiy Agbotomokekere while saying death is an inevitable end of every man stated that late Oba Adetunji lived a life worthy of emulation.

Leading the Oyo State delegation to the burial of late Olubadan is the Oyo State Deputy Governor, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan.

In an interview with journalists, Engineer Olaniyan said the late monarch would be greatly missed, describing his reign as peaceful.

Also, popular Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde who explained that late Olubadan nurtured him, stated that Oba Adetunji was highly principled and honest in all his dealings.

Former governors of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, Otunba Alao-Akala, Senator Fatai Buhari, traditional rulers, families, friends paid their last respects to late Oba Adetunji at the burial.

Oba Saliu Adetunji who reigned for five years last died today Sunday 2nd of January, 2022 at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan during a brief illness at the age of 93 years.
