The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Sunday, vowed to deal decisively with all the bad ones, no matter how highly placed in the society, in his second term.

He made this known during the thanksgiving church service held at Saint Peter’s Cathedral Church, Aremo in Ibadan, the state capital, in commemoration of his second-term victory.

Makinde, who also declared that the era of thuggery had gone in the state, vowed that the government would not tolerate any act of indiscipline, thuggery, and hooliganism that can disrupt the prevailing peace in the state.

The governor said, “On the issue of security, there cannot be development when there is no peace. During the election, no one can say that he was beaten or molested. I went to the parks and garages and told them that I would find a way to merge them together, but someone said that he cannot work with them.

“We cannot have two governors in the state. All the bad ones, we will deal with them. We are on top of the situation. You have given me the opportunity of second term. I thank you and God for giving me the opportunity to serve another term. I stand before you today to say that the second term will be better than the first term. I will serve the people to the best of my ability. I want the church to pray for me so that I can finish it strong.”

He also declared that his administration would no longer tolerate street trading and indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the roads, warning that whoever was caught would face the full wrath of the law.

Makinde said, “We need to upgrade our lifestyle, especially dumping of refuses on the median of roads, dumping of refuses at every junction and street trading because we want investors to come.

“If we want the state to rival Lagos State, then we have to change our lifestyle. Do not say that Makinde is wicked in this second term. We will provide an atmosphere to ensure that people comply.”

The Bishop of Ibadan North Anglican Diocese, Rt. Reverend Williams Aladekugbe, presided over the thanksgiving, also attended by the Deputy Governor, Adebayo Lawal, his wife, Ajibola Lawal, wife of former governor Rashidi Ladoja, Mutiat; the Speaker of state House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, the state Chief Judge, Justice Iyabo Yerima, Senator Gbenga Babalola and the immediate past Commissioner for Information, Wasiu Olatubosun.

Some residents of Elewuro Akobo in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State, have slammed the Chairman of the Local Government, Mr Kazeem Adeyemi Gbadamosi, for brandishing a gun at a social function in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Friday, March 25, 2020.

Narrating the scenario to Tribune Online on Sunday, Mr Segun Durojaiye, informed that the incident occurred during the burial ceremony of the late father of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman in Lagelu Local Government, Chief Femi Falowo.

Durojaiye, who was at the ceremony said“It was a usual social gathering, but for the fact that it was the burial ceremony of a politician’s father, the event attracted politicians from nooks and crannies of Oyo State. Security personnel, including local and government were also on ground.

“Trouble started when an aspirant for the House of Representatives seat for Lagelu/Akinyele federal constituency, Adetokunbo Abideen Adeaga, arrived at the venue, alongside his supporters local hunters who were present welcomed him with gunshots, it was at this point that the security personnel recruited by the Local Government authority started shooting, a development which prompted guests at the party to run for safety.

“As this was ongoing, Gbadamosi, probably frightened by the presence of Adeaga, snatched a gun from one of the local government security personnel and attempted to shoot. It took the intervention of Adeaga and some other people to prevent him from shooting.

“I want to on behalf of other residents call on the Governor of Oyo State, Mr Seyi Makinde to please call Gbadamosi to order to avert reccurrence and not to put residents under unnecessary tension as well as tarnish the image of the government of Oyo State.”

While reacting, Gbadamosi in a telephone conversation said “I see what happened last Friday as an attempt to assassinate me. I was shot at twice, I can recognise the guy who shot at me, he was putting on a different dress. Adeaga came into the venue of the party with some guys in complete black attire.

“Initially, I did not want to talk on this matter because it all happened in the presence of men of the Directorate of State Security (DSS) and the Nigerian Police. What came to my mind when the shooting was ongoing was that it was a deliberate attempt to kill me just like they killed two lawmakers from our constituency, late Mr Segun Oladimeji a.k.a Segelu and Olatoye a.k.a Sugar. I collected a gun from the security personnel to defend myself. If I did not do that at that point in time, I would have been a dead man by now.”

The ongoing rehabilitation at a section of Dugbe market recently gutted by fire had been put on hold by officials of Bureau of Physical Planning and Development Control.

The owner of a two story building in the market affected by the fire outbreak had commenced repair of the building few days after the fire outbreak, before it was now sealed off.

Radio Nigeria correspondent reports that the official came to the scene to stop the reconstruction work and sealed off few shops that had earlier opened for business.

An eye witness, who claimed anonymity said the work was stopped due to failure to secure approval from the agency overseeing physical planning and development in Oyo state.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the development has affected some shop owners in the affected building while some of them were standing in groups discussing the development.

Effort to get the reaction of Oyo state government was unsuccessful.
