The poor plight of the pensioners has once again be stressed by police retirees in Ondo state under the leadership of Mr David Akinyemi.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria in Akure today at the state’s capital, Mr. Akinyemi who retired as deputy commissioner of Police called on President Muhammad Buhari as well as other concerned stakeholders to salvage their situations by exiting them from the pension PENCOM scheme to Police Pension board where their grievances could be better addressed.

On his part, Mr. Joshua Olayemi who retired as a Deputy Superintendent of Police lamented that what he received often could not be satisfactory taken care of artesian dog at the end of every month noting that the retirees only collected what they contributed to the scheme which needed to be addressed.

Buttressing the points raised by his colleagues, another police retiree, Mr Samuel Bamigbola hinted that the retirees had not for once enjoyed any entitlement accorded them by government.

The Police retirees collectively called on federal Government to assist them for an enhanced welfare package which the police pension board could take care of as expected.

After thirty five years in public service or attaining sixty years, a retiree’s wish would be to have sweet rest.

This has not been the case for retirees under the contributory pension scheme PENCOM, hence the Southwest chapter of the Contributory Pensioners Union of Nigeria protested about their plight to media houses including Radio Nigeria Ibadan.

Correspondent, Simeon Ugbodovon, presents details of the protest.

Contributory Pensioners Union of Nigeria, CPUN, have expressed dissatisfaction over the federal and state governments’ decision to borrow from the pension fund.

According to a statement by the Chairman, Contributory Pension Scheme Fund, Mr Samuel Kojusola, the step was at the expense of their retirement benefits.

The union called on the National Pension Commission, PENCOM, to implement and pay 15% and 33% increase in pension since 2007 and 2010 as approved by the federal government.

They, however, appealed to the government at all levels to prioritize the welfare of pensioners.
