The Ekiti State Government says it will not tolerate mediocrity among teachers across the public Primary and Secondary schools in the state with emphasis for them to be creative, committed and embrace moral excellence.

Governor Kayode Fayemi stated this while presenting appointment letters to the six hundred newly recruited Primary School Teachers held in Ado-Ekiti.

Governor Fayemi said the future of the state was tied to the success of the younger generation more so that the education sector remained the most thriving industry in Ekiti.

Represented by the Deputy Governor Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, Dr Fayemi urged them to always display integrity in the discharge of their duties and shun immoralities which could in turn impact negatively to the system.

He explained that the government was conscious of providing a conducive teaching environment across the schools, hence the need for teachers to reciprocate the gesture.

While speaking on the recruitment process, Governor Fayemi observed that those recruited were based on merit, transparent and devoid of political, religion, gender, background and ethnic colourations.

Governor Fayemi tasked them to take advantage of the five-day training programme and induction service organised for newly recruited teachers to improve on their capabilities.

The Ekiti State number one citizen said his administration would not tolerate teachers who might cheat on the system, hence, the need to be a good teacher and not a cheater.

Earlier, the Executive Chairman, Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, Professor Femi Akinwumi counseled them to always take good care of pupils who he said were still in their formative years.

Professor Akinwumi also appreciated Governor Fayemi for clearing all outstanding counterpart funds owed to UBEC covering 2015 to 2020 and urged the new intakes to purge themselves from acts of laziness, truancy and lateness to duty.

In their goodwill messages, Mr Sola Ajiborode challenged the newly recruited teachers to see their appointments as a treasure that must be protected by doing everything possible in their capabilities to improve the standard of education.

Ekiti State SUBEB Coordinator, Mr Sunday Aremo noted that the passion for improving the education sector and making education more meaningful to the younger generation should be promoted by the newly recruited teachers.

In her own submission, the Special Adviser to Governor on Basic, Secondary and Vocational Education, Professor Francesca Aladejana challenged teachers to always move with the digital trends of imparting knowledge for them not to be found wanting in the teaching profession.

The Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has released the names of 600 newly recruited primary school teachers on the State’s SUBEB website.

The Ekiti State SUBEB Chairman, Professor Femi Akinwumi who made this known in Ado Ekiti, explained that, the newly employed teachers were the first batch to be employed from successful applicants in the recruitment exercise and documentation process carried out by SUBEB recently.

Professor Akinwumi advised applicants to check the list by logging to the Ekiti State Website via http://ekitistate.gov.ng/jobs.

He explained that the 600 successful applicants as well as the already notified 100 newly recruited teachers under the Federal Teachers Scheme would undergo a 4-day induction workshop from the Monday ,18th January, 2021 at designated centres across the state under strict compliance with the COVID-19 Protocols recently announced by the state government.

Professor Akinwumi added that the venues for the training and other relevant information would be made available to the successful candidates very soon.

The SUBEB chairman who stressed that the recruitment exercise was devoid of political, religious, ethnic or gender bias, submitted that it was purely based on merit.

Professor Akinwumi however charged the newly recruited teachers to see their employment as a call to duty, stressing that they should judiciously utilise the opportunity given to them by being diligent, loyal and dedicated to their duties.

The SUBEB boss also assured that the exercise was a continuous one as more successful applicants would still be employed in due course.

Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB Professor Femi Akinwumi has set September 30 as the deadline for the contractors handling the construction of the four public secondary schools recently established by the government to complete the projects.

He announced the deadline in Ado Ekiti during a meeting with the contractors.

Professor Akinwumi assured them that the board would continue to give necessary support towards ensuring the completion of the project as scheduled.

The SUBEB boss reiterated the commitment of the Fayemi-led administration to the provision of free qualitative basic education to all children of school age in the state.

He stated that the four new secondary schools would, upon completion, improve access of students living  in the  outskirts  of the State capital to secondary  education.

In his contribution, the new Permanent Secretary of SUBEB, Mr. Oluwadare Ajayi urged the contractors to note the observations made and adhere strictly to the directives of Governor Fayemi during his recent visit to the project sites.

Responding, representatives of the contractors pledged that they would deliver the projects  before the deadline.

The contractors said that they had already commenced roofing, plastering, fixing of the doors, windows, electrification and plumbing works as well as the landscaping of the playground and environment of the new schools.

The newly established four secondary schools which are part  of the Legacy Projects of the   Fayemi-led Administration are named after elder statesmen and prominent citizens in the state.

The schools located in the state capital are the Ayo Fasanmi High School, Iworoko Road; David Oke High School, Ijan Road; the Banji Akintoye High School, Ikere Road and the Deji Fasuan High School, Afao Road.

The new Executive Chairman of Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Professor Femi Akinwumi has assumed duty with a call on staff of the Board to cooperate with him in the task of improving the quality of education in public primary schools in the state.

Professor Akinwumi made the call in Ado Ekiti during his inaugural meeting with members of staff of the Board.

He told them that one of the mandates given to him by Governor Kayode Fayemi was to transform public primary schools into centers of excellence that can compete favorably with the best schools in the country.

Professor Akinwumi stated that the Board, under his watch, would adopt a holistic approach towards improving the quality of public schools in the state.

The new SUBEB Chairman stressed that human capital and infrastructural development as well as vigorous monitoring of schools would be strategically pursued in order to achieve the desired goals.

Professor Akinwumi emphasized the need for the staff to rededicate themselves to their duties and shun indolence, lateness as well as other vices that could affect their productivity.

The Permanent Secretary of the Board, Mr Olusesan Fabamishe had earlier conducted the new chairman round offices in the SUBEB premises where he pledged the commitment of staff to the actualization of his vision and mission for the board.

Professor Akinwumi, an alumnus of the University of Ibadan was until his appointment a Professor of Educational Management in the nation’s premier University.
