Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have burst a terrorist hideout in Ihube, Okigwe Local Government Area and killed six members.

The gang was alleged to be the masterminds behind the attack on the Correctional Centre Owerri, the murder of five policemen, the burning of Arondizuogu Police Station, and several kidnaps within Imo State.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed this in a statement shared via the Force’s Facebook page on Saturday.

Adejobi said on January 24, 2025, operatives from the Command’s tactical unit following credible intelligence launched a coordinated operation aimed at locating and dislodging the terrorist hideouts, adding that the police operatives located the terrorists’ hideout in a forest within Ihube, Okigwe LGA and swooped on the suspects.

He said the police operatives who acted on credible information on Friday stormed a forest within Ihube, in the Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo state where they swooped on the alleged terrorist gang, three of which were members of the Eastern Security Network.

According to him, upon approach into the forest, the operatives came under heavy fire from suspected IPOB/ESN terrorists but demonstrated exceptional courage and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle.

The statement read, “The operation resulted in the neutralization of 6 members of the terrorist group, with 3 being ESN kingpins identified as Ifeanyi Anayo a.k.a. Zuma De Rock (28), Chukwuemeka Odionyenfe a.k.a. Nmimi (22), and Kingsley Sunday (21), all natives of Ogube, Ihube in Okigwe Local Government Area, and the recovery of five AK-47 rifles, 552 rounds of live ammunition, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), some communication equipment, along with 8 operational motorcycles used by the group.

“Prior investigations had revealed the involvement of the group in several high-profile crimes, including the attack on the Owerri Correctional Center on April 5, 2021, the killing of five policemen in
Umunna, Okigwe, on December 12, 2022, and the burning of Arondizuogu Police Station on February 8, 2022.

“The group was also involved in multiple kidnappings, including those of WAEC staff on June 5, 2023, four reverend sisters on August 21, 2022, and four Chinese Nationals on December 6, 2023.

According to him, the operation was part of the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force to emplace peace and public safety across the country, to sustain the battle against terrorism saying “police operatives attached to the Imo State Police Command have achieved a significant milestone in the ongoing battle against terrorism with the neutralization of three deadly terrorist kingpins associated with the Eastern Security Network (ESN)”.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has commended the operatives for their exceptional display of bravery and coordination.

The IGP charged police operatives across the different commands and formations to sustain the tempo and implement the Force’s action plan aimed at reducing crimes drastically in the first quarter of the
year 2025.

Adejobi said the Nigeria Police Force remains unyielding in its goal towards ensuring National security and public safety.

He however called on members of the public to “Remain vigilant and work collaboratively with the Nigeria Police Force to promote peace and ensure a safer environment for all citizens.”

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Sholola Kazeem in Owode-Egba for allegedly pouring hot vegetable oil on his wife and stabbing her in the head during a violent altercation.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ms Omolola Odutola, who made this known in a statement, explained that the incident occurred following a misunderstanding between the suspect and his wife, Sholola Mutiat, who live together in the Ring Road community.

The assault left the victim with multiple injuries, requiring her to be hospitalized at a private medical facility.

Members of the community reported the incident to the Owode Divisional Police Officer, DPO, prompting the suspect’s arrest.

Ms. Odutola confirmed that Kazeem is currently under investigation and will be charged to court soon.

Residents of Ilobu in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State have decried alleged invasion and destruction of their farmland by hoodlums suspected to be working for Ifon-Orolu Community.

The Ilobu-Asake indigenes, however, called for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the attacks and destruction of their farms weeks after the peace accords by the two warring communities.

The worried residents of the town thronged the major streets in the town to protest what they described as perpetual attack on the people of the town by some indigenes of Ifon Community.

Addressing journalists shortly after the protest, the Public Relations Officer, Ilobu Asake Development Union, Mr. Tairu Babatunde called for the quick intervention of Governor Ademola Adeleke before the issue gets out of the hand.

Mr Babatunde alleged that some of their people whose farmland were located around Oloso, Idi-Iriko, Owode and several other villages in Ifon and Oyo State were destroyed.

He also alleged that their people were beaten, dehumanized and harassed by Ifon people and that their farm products were taken by them.

Also, one of the affected villagers, Bashiru Adegbenro said, “the people of Ifon on 4th October came to attack us and we are not on their farm we farming on Oyo Land. When they came they asked us to vacate the land, that they have taken over our farm”.

“Despite the peace accord that we both signed they invaded our farms and cut down our farm produces. After taking away our farm products such as yam, cassava, kola nuts among others, they went ahead to burnt down our farm.”

“Our farms are on the land of Oyo not Ifon those that attacked us are Eesa of Ifon, Jide Akinyooye, Sunday Odeyemi among others. They have burnt everything in that land and even removed the roof and sold it”, He explained.

“The state government should come to our rescue, to eat now is very difficult for us and our children are no longer going to school because there is nothing to eat, please help us. Ifon has taken over our source of income.” 

“Those men armed with guns asked us to leave or they will shoot us immediately I had to beg them to allow me take my remaining yam but before I could say anything further they starting shooting in the air while I was about leaving they beat me.” Mr Adegbenro added

Reacting to the allegations, Secretary, Ifon Orolu Descendants Board of Trustees, Prince Jide Akinyooye debunked the allegations.

Prince Akinyooye said:“Nobody prevented them from going to their farms. They are the one that went to the court in Oyo State for malicious damage. “They are afraid of going back to the farm after the battle”, he said.

Radio Nigeria recalls that the two neighbouring towns, located in Orolu and Irepodun Local Government Areas, have been at loggerheads over land dispute for years, but the crisis rekindled in September/October, this year, where several people were killed and properties destroyed.

The two warring communities on October 2023 were made to sign a peace agreement brokered by the state government after weeks of violence and tension in the town.

The Federal University of Agriculture, FUNAAB, Abeokuta, has cleared a final-year student of the school, Oladokun Ayomide, over the allegation of poisoning his girlfriend and another lady.

Earlier reports said the Ogun State Police Command arrested Ayomide for allegedly poisoning Ugbokwe Mmasichukwu and another lady, Odumosu Semilore.

The police said the suspect administered a poison believed to be a mixture of brownie cakes, alcohol, and an unknown harmful substance after inviting his girlfriend to his residence in the Surulere community in the Camp area of the city.

However, according to a statement issued by the Assistant Director, Media Directorate of Public Relations, FUNAAB, Olasunkanmi Olajide, and made available to our correspondent on Thursday, the cakes purchased by Ayomide, “contained a high level of alcohol. This led to the unintentional intoxication of the consumers.”

“Ayomide had no malicious intent, as confirmed by the medical examination at their institution’s health centre. The affected individuals were discharged from the hospital the following day and even participated in their examinations on November 10, 2023.”

“It is crucial to emphasise that all charges against Ayomide, brought forth by the parents and the school of the affected ladies, have been dropped due to the lack of malicious intent,” the school stated.

When contacted, the Ogun State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that the student had been released on bail following a settlement by the parents of the students.

Allegations that a final-year student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, had poisoned his girlfriend and another female student of the institution has continued to generate reactions among the university community.

The male final-year student, identified by some residents as Oladokun Ayomide was alleged to have administered substances, suspected to be poison into the cake and drinks offered to the victims after inviting them over to his place at Surulere, Camp Axis, close to Alabata, Abeokuta campus of the university.

Those who witnessed the incident told newsmen that the affected girlfriend, Ugbokwe Mmasichukwu, and her friend, Odumosu Semilore who accompanied her to the suspect’s residence allegedly lost consciousness after consuming the cake and were rushed to the hospital.

The residents claimed that the Chief Security Officer, CSO of FUNAAB, Mr Olusola Ajibola was among those who handed over the suspect to the police for further investigation.

When contacted by Radio Nigeria, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Office, PPRO, indicated that the command’s headquarters was yet to have the details of the incident while the Public Relations Officer, PRO for FUNAAB, Mr Kola Adepoju also gave a similar response, noting that the university was yet to resume from its semester break.

Police in Ogun State has apprehended one pastor, Timothy Oluwatimilehin, for allegedly luring a housewife and her two daughters away from their home, keeping them in his own house and having carnal knowledge of them.

Pastor Oluwatimileyin was arrested following a complaint at Adatan Police Station by the husband and father of the victims who was accompanied by an official of the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs.

A statement by the Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi indicated that upon the report, the DPO Adatan division, Mr Abiodun Salau detailed police detectives to effect the arrest of the randy pastor.

According to the statement, on interrogation, the pastor confessed to the commission of the crime and pleaded for forgiveness.

The statement showed that the suspect explained that he took the advantage of a little misunderstanding between the woman and her husband to carry out the devilish act.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole had directed the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to take over the case and diligently investigate it with the view to charging the suspect to court as soon as possible.

The Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Osun State Command has unveiled a new unit which it has equipped with the relevant gadgets to curtail the trend of internet fraud in the state.

NSCDC Commandant in Osun State, Mr Emmanuel Ocheja said the newly equipped unit would commence full operations in 2022 and would be in a better position to track various devices used in defrauding innocent Nigerians.

In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Adigun Daniel, the commandant said the unit was created due to alarming high incidents of dubious transactions over the internet.

Nigeria, according to Mr Ocheja, has been plagued with lots of dubious transactions through the internet adding that so many innocent individuals have been swindled of their hard-earned money as a result of falling victims to fraudsters.

He remarked that having observed the ugly trend, the command decided to train personnel in this line to strengthen, improve and update their knowledge so as to apprehend and curtail the activities of internet fraudsters popularly known as “Yahoo Boys”.

New Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, Adewale Osifeso has assumed office at the Eleyele Command, Ibadan, Oyo State.

This is contains in a statement signed in Ibadan by the State Deputy Public Relation Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police,  ASP, Omotayo Oduniyi for the Commissioner of Police,  Mrs Ngozi Onadeko.

The statement notes that the new Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Adewale Osifeso, was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP on 9th January, 2012.

He is an alumnus of Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago-Iwoye where he bagged his B.A in Mass Communication in 2007.

He is a seasoned detective and has served in various capacities as operation officer, departmental team leader under various Intelligence departments at the State Criminal Investigation Department Iyaganku, Oyo State and Unit Commander under the Special Protection Unit, Base 22 Ibadan.

Until his recent deployment, he served as a Unit Commander at 39 PMF Osogbo, osun State and he is an associate member of the Nigerian Institute of Public relations.

Nigeria Police Force has arrested two policemen in connection with the viral video of the dehumanising treatment to one Miss Towobola.

The two officers are Assistant Superintendent of Police, Tijani Olatunji and Inspector Gboyega Oyeniyi who are attached to area “A” Command, Lion Building, Lagos and are currently being retained at the Lagos State Criminal Investigative Department, CID detention in Panti.

According to the Force Headquarters Abuja, Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, the two officers were on a legitimate investigation activities to Ibadan where the incident took place.

He noted that efforts was being intensified to arrest the two other civilian accomplices and that disciplinary procedures would be initiated after thorough investigations.

It would be recalled that a video where some police officers dehumanised a twenty-five-year-old lady went viral which has since been attracting different reactions.

The Chairman, Board of Management, University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, Alhaji Shettima Bako Bangudu has tested negative for Coronavirus.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer, PRO, UCH, Mr. Toye Akinrinlola explains that the two tests carried out on Alhaji Bangudu after three weeks of quarantine both returned negative.

Mr. Akinrinola said following this, the chairman now has a clean bill of health.

The statement explains that, Alhaji Shettima has urged Nigerians to observe the guidelines laid down by the World Health Organization, WHO, and the National Center for Disease Control, NCDC.

He then thanked the UCH community for their support and encouragement during the trying period.

Alhaji Shettima also expressed his appreciation to the UCH Chief Medical Director, CMD, Professor Jesse Otegbayo, the Management of the Hospital and all the medical personnel that attended to him while on the quarantine.
