Oyo State governor, Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde, has expressed condolences to the Okere of Sakiland, Oba Khalid Olabisi, over the death of one of his wives, Olori Waliyat Abimbola. 

The governor commiserated with the monarch and the people of Saki, praying to God to grant repose to the soul of the deceased Olori. 

He also prayed to Allah to grant the monarch and his family the fortitude to bear the loss. 

According to the governor, “The death of a loved one is always painful, but we can only submit to God who gives and takes life.

“I condole with Kabiyesi Okere and pray that Allah SWT will uphold him and his household as well as his domain.”

The Oyo State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Michael Adaralewa has reiterated the Corps’ readiness to build on the existing relationship with other security agencies in the State to ensure continuous protection of lives and property of all the residents.

Dr Adaralewa made this known in Saki, Oke Ogun Area of Oyo State as part of his familiarization tour of the town and meeting with the stakeholders in the community.

 The Commandant who paid a visit to the Chairman, Saki West Local Government, Mr  Sarafadeen Omirinde in his office, expressed his happiness and appreciation to the community for creating an enabling environment for his personnel to operate within the ambit of law. 

Dr Adaralewa explained that the collaboration of NSCDC with other security agencies had brought about the existing peace and harmony being enjoyed by all the residents in the Area.

Responding, Chairman, Saki West Local Government, Saki, Mr Sarafadeen Omirinde, commended all the security agencies within the Local Government Area for always responding swiftly when called upon and emphasized the need for intelligence sharing. 

He called on the Commandant to ensure that the indigenes of the town are employed into the service to aid in curbing youth restiveness as unemployment plays a key role in it. 

The Chairman expressed his continuous support for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps through information that will make the agency perform optimally.

The tour continues as the Commandant is currently meeting other stakeholders at the Saki City Town Hall, Saki.

Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) has called on the students of the Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki to speak out whenever they see or experience any corrupt act or when sexually harassed by their lecturers.

The agency, which was established to investigate corruption acts by public officials, civil servants and contractors, has taken its sensitization campaign around government-owned agencies, Ministries as well as State-owned institutions of higher learning.

While speaking at the sensitization and advocacy campaign program at the Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, the OYACA Chairman, Hon. Justice Eni Esan, said corruption has affected the socio-economic growth of Nigeria and the time to wipe it out has come.

She called on the students and staff members of the institution to be wary of corruptive tendencies that could affect their images negatively while charging the management of the institution to encourage probity in the finances.

She called on female and male students to contact the agency by writing to the OYACA head office at Ibadan, the local office at Saki or mail their complaints to the agency’s website for prompt attention.

“If you experience sexual assault from your lecturers or management of the institution, do not hesitate to contact us, you can go to our website to lodge complaints, we will take immediate action.

“We have an office here in Saki, so you won’t have to come all the way to Ibadan, you can lodge your complaints at our Saki office.”

In his speech, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Surveyor Ajibola Sikiru, who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Eniola Philip appreciated the government of Oyo State, under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde for deeming it fit to sensitize students and staff members about corruption and its adverse effects on the communities and the entire State. 

He said the establishment of the agency was timely, as the nation is going through socioeconomic challenges that were caused by the greed of the people.

He pledged the support of the entire staff members and students of the Polytechnic to OYACA, for the the growth of the State.

During the question and answer session, one a student of the institution, Peter Adekunle, urged the agency to establish an anti-corruption vanguard for the school, an idea that the Chairman of OYACA said was good, especially as such group has been founded in State higher institution like the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso (LAUTECH).

Among the members of the OYACA board that were at the event are Prince Oyebade Oyedepo fca, I.O Tijani, the Executive Secretary of the agency, Mrs Folasade Ajibade who is the Director of ICT and the Director of Administration, Mr. Lere Omotoso.

Zonal Director, Radio Nigeria Ibadan, Mr Dominic Mokikan has unveiled Mr Nafiu Busari as Head of Station Asabari 88.3 FM Saki.

Presenting Mr Busari during a staff meeting at the station’s office in Saki, the Zonal Director, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria FRCN, Ibadan, Mr Dominic Mokikan said Mr Busari was carefully selected after all factors were put into consideration.

He pointed out that the Management strongly believes that Mr Busari is fit for the job.

Mr Mokikan enjoined him to be dedicated and ensure that the station is rated high among others.

The Zonal Director, who noted that Asabari FM started transmission January, 2023, said the station was well accepted in Saki and its environs.

He promised the listener that the station would continue to promote peaceful existence among the people and laudable programmes of the government.

Mr Mokikan explained the station was located in Saki in order to promote people ways of life and convey their yearnings to the government.

Responding, the Head of station, Asabari 88.3 FM, Mr Nafiu Busari said he regarded the appointment as a trust which must be protected. 

He sought the support of the staff in achieving the goals of establishing the station and attracting customers. 

The forum had in attendance the Assistant Deputy Director, Administration, FRCN Ibadan Zonal station, Mr Adebayo Eso.

 Former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General, who is Nigeria Ambassador to the Republic of Benin Tukur Buratai stated this during the inauguration of the roads and gates of Command Science Secondary School, Saki,  Oyo State.

General Buratai explained that education brings life and hope, urging teachers, students as well as management of the school to make judicious use of the infrastructure that sustains it.

The former chief of Army Staff called for support of residents of Saki residents through massive enrollment of their children in the school.

He assured them that security agencies would continue to secure the lives of the students, teachers as well as the whole town to protect the territorial integrity of Nigeria Security. 
General Buratai appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, for approving the inauguration of the road named after him.

In his address of welcome,  General Officer Commanding, 2 Division Nigerian Army, Ibadan, Major General Gold Chibuisi appreciated the Oyo State Government for donating the school building to make it possible for the Army to operate the Command Science school conveniently.

Major General Chibuisi charged teachers and students to maintain discipline for a perfect and maximum overall performance. 

The occasion was graced by Deputy Governor of Oyo State,  Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, Okere of Saki land,  Oba Halid Oyedepo, Oba Hameed  Oyelude Olowu of Owukuta and other dignitaries from the Nigerian Army.

The 56th Annual General Meeting of Saki Parapo, with award presentation to outstanding sons and daughters, is underway. 

Among the awardees to be honoured on the occasion is a senior reporter with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr Sherifdeen Nashirdeen.

Mr Nashirdeen would be honoured for his contributions to the development of the city, especially, his role in facilitating the establishment of Asabari FM, on the stable of Radio Nigeria, Ibadan Zonal Station, which will soon be inaugurated.

The event attracted representatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Oyo state Teaching Service Commission TESCOM, DSS, Saki Polytechnic, political office holders and other stakeholders.

Security agencies and institutions present registered their commitment towards the security of the region.

National president, Saki Parapo, Chief Adedayo Adejumobi urged all and sundry to contribute towards the development of Saki.

Chief Adejumobi implored bloggers to authenticate their stories on issues relating to Saki before publishing.

Oyo State Government has commenced a scientific investigation on the validity of the suspected earth tremor in Saki.

Chairman, Oyo State Minerals Development Agency, Mr. Abiodun Oni stated this during a fact-finding visit to Saki West Local Government Area of the State.

He said the scientific research on the suspected earth tremor is being carried out at a seismograph center located in Ilorin, Kwara State and explained that the result would also highlight causes of the tremor if truly the story is true.

Mr Oni maintained that till date there has been no proof that what happened was a tremor and urged people living in the affected areas in the Local Government not to panic as there was no imminent sign of danger as a result of the incident.

He reiterated the commitment of Governor Seyi Makinde to security of lives and property in the State stressing that safety of people is the top priority of any responsible government.

In a remark, a German Geologist, Mr. Andy Friese noted that the sound of the suspected earth tremor is natural and has no risk on the lives of the people urging the residents of the area not to develop fear because of the occurrence.

One of the community leaders, Alhaji AbdulGaniy OkeAran appreciated the state government for the prompt action towards the suspected earth tremor.

Civil Servants in Oyo State will receive their 13th month salary next week.

Governor Seyi Makinde stated this while speaking during his birthday celebration in Saki.

He lauded the workers for their support and promised to create a conducive environment that would enhance productivity.

Earlier, the Head of Service, Alhaja Amidat Agboola described Engineer Makinde as a governor with passion for civil servants.

She said Governor Makinde’s relationship with the civil servants and pensioners in the state was unprecedented and harmonious.

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has flagged-off the rehabilitation of Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, OYSADA, Headquarters in Saki.

While flagging off the rehabilitation of the OYSADA Headquarters, Governor Makinde said government would make use of local artisans for the facility, to be completed within five to six months.

The governor added that the agency would soon commence operation noting that some OYSADA members of staff would resume work at the Ministry of Agriculture, Secretariat, Ibadan and others at the OYSADA headquarters in Saki.

On easy movement of farm produce, the governor explained that a total rehabilitation of Oyo-Iseyin road and patch up potholes from Iseyin to Saki would commence once the federal government approved the roads.

Governor Makinde later inspected an ongoing rehabilitation of the proposed Saki Infectious Disease Center that would house a 200-bed facility.

Crime

An eighteen-year-old girl has been raped and machete to death by unknown suspected ritualists at Idi Ori, Akinyele Local Government Area, Sasa, Ibadan.

The victim who was a student of Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki was sleeping in her room when the incident happened. 

According to a witness, who preferred anonymity, the suspected ritualists came in through the ceiling, rape and machete the victim to death. 

As at the time of filling the report, the police had taken the deceased corpse to Adeoyo Hospital mortuary. 

Efforts to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Gbenga Fadeyi proved abortive.

In a bid to prevent flooding, Oyo State government has taken a sensitization campaign to the Oke-Ogun area of the state as part of its efforts in stemming the effects of global warming in the area.

About 75% of charcoal production in Oyo State is from Oke-Ogun area which were for export or domestic use but with direct effect on the climate, as trees were felled to produce charcoal.

The state government over the weekend, organized the awareness campaign program to call the attention of residents of the area to the effects of deforestation due to felling of woods for industrial purpose, saying the government was poised to do all it could, to reduce risks caused by these commercial activities.

The state’s Deputy Governor, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan who disclosed this at the One Day Sensitization Program held at Saki, Saki West Local Government, said the present administration has been factoring disaster risk reduction into her developmental strides, so as to curb loss of lives and properties to natural disaster.

The deputy governor who was represented by the Secretary, Oyo State Emergency Agency (OYSEMA), Alhaji Luqmon Aransi urged the people of Oke-Ogun to imbibe the culture of safety and work together alongside the state government to avert disasters.
