Senator Sharafadeen Alli  APC-Oyo South, has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and steadfast in their collective journey towards a greater nation under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

This is contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas and made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Ibadan. 

Alli said that President Tinubu was committed to addressing the nation’s challenges, while building on the foundations of progress and development. 

The Senate Committee Chairman on Electoral Matters, expressed hope that the nation would overcome obstacles and achieve a greater Nigeria in togetherness. 

“Today we stand at a crucial juncture in our nation’s history, filled with hope and the promise of a brighter future. 

“I urge every Nigerian to remain hopeful and steadfast in our collective journey towards a greater nation under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu,” he said.

He reflected on the nation’s democratic journey, saying it was essential to remember and honour the sacrifices of Chief MKO Abiola, GCFR , a true martyr of Nigeria’s democracy. 

The lawmaker said that Abiola’s unwavering commitment to the principles of justice and equity laid the groundwork for the freedoms they enjoyed today. 

According to him, his sacrifice in the face of great personal adversity serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the price paid for our democratic gains.

“Abiola’s legacy is one of courage and resilience. He stood firm in his demand for his June 12 mandate, even at the cost of his own life.”

Alli said that Abiola’s incarceration and ultimate demise were not in vain, as they catalysed the democratic transformation witnessed today. 

“We owe it to his memory to continue striving for the values he held dear. Values that will guide us towards a more just and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to also remember and celebrate other heroes who fought tirelessly for the nation’s democracy.

The lawmaker said that their sacrifices and contributions paved way for the opportunities they now have to build a better nation. 

Alli said that it was through their enduring spirits they drew inspiration to persist in efforts to strengthen the nation’s democratic institutions and promote good governance.

The lawmaker urged Nigerians to remain united and hopeful as they forge ahead under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. 

“Together, we can build a Nigeria that fulfills the aspirations of all its citizens. A nation marked by peace, progress, and prosperity,” he said.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ FRCN Ibadan Chapel has recognized some outstanding individuals during its gala and awards nite as part of activities Marking 2023 press week of the chapel.

Welcoming the guests with warm reception and dancing to various melodious songs at the Studio One broadcasting, Dugbe Ibadan, Chairman, NUJ FRCN Chapel, Mr Oluwakayode Banjo  said the occasion was to roll out drums, celebrate God’s faithfulness and wine and dine with the members of the Union who cladded in Uniform befitting attires, Awardees and colleagues in the federal radio corporation of Nigeria, FRCN Ibadan Oyo State.

Delving into the main business, the music through the Disc Jockey, DJ, thrilled the guests and staff of the Corporation with soothing songs as the Awards Presentation got underway.

Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Kayrom Lee Gym and Fitness Centre, Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Liberty Oke Ado Ibadan, Ambassador Romoke Ayinde who was recognized as the Media Friendly Personality of the Year, was also invested as the Patroness of the Union, another Awardee, Chairman, SDM Group, Prince Niran Adeyoju stepped out to receive Outstanding Philanthropy Award and was also decorated as the Patron of the Union in the Chapel.

Senator representing Oyo South in the Senate, Sharafadeen Alli received an Award as an Outstanding Personality of the Year, while a Financial and Banking Executive, Chief Kolapo Kola-Daisi was being recognized for his Humanitarian Service to the Society.

Reacting, the four Awardees pledged an endless commitment and support to activities of NUJ, FRCN Ibadan Chapel, saying the members are always demonstrating professionalism in their lines of duty.

The event was attended by the Zonal Director, FRCN Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr Dominic Mokikan who urged members of the Union to continue making the Station proud as thoroughbred professionals.

Other dignitaries in attendance included Members of the Committee of Management, C.O.M. FRCN Ibadan and leaders of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council under Chief Ademola Babalola.

The senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Sharafadeen Alli, has called on the Federal Government to immortalize and organise a befitting state burial for the designer of the Nigerian flag, Mr. Taiwo Akinkunmi who died on 29th August, this year.

In a statement made available to Radio Nigeria, Ibadan by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Akeem Abas, Senator Alli moved the motion before the senate during its plenary in Abuja.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on INEC said the late Taiwo Akinkunmi had contributed immensely to Nigeria’s Independence by designing the globally recognized flag of the country; hence, he deserved monumental recognition and honour, even in death.

Senator Alli described the late Akinkunmi as a national hero, whose legacy lingers, urging the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu to support initiatives that would document the history and achievements of the deceased for the future generation to read about.

The Ibadan-born politician and philanthropist submitted that the honour, if accorded late Taiwo Akinkunmi would encourage the youths to be more patriotic and dedicated to the service of Nigeria, adding that, the late Akinkunmi was an undergraduate when he designed the Nigerian Flag.

The statement adds that a minute silence was observed at the plenary in honour of the deceased.

Olubadan of Ibadan land, His Imperial Majesty Oba Lekan Balogun has charged nine newly promoted  Chiefs to uphold the traditional values of Ibadan and the dignity of their office.

Oba Balogun gave the Charge during the Installation and promotion of some chiefs at his Aliiwo Palace in Ibadan.

The Olubadan urged the new chiefs to see their elevation as a call to service. 

 Oluwo Afobaje of Ibadan land, Alhaji Popoola Mosadogun, who performed the rites decorated each of the chiefs as directed by Oba Lekan Balogun. 

 The new chiefs are Chief Akeem Adewoyin from maye to Abese Balogun, 

Chief Barrister Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli from Ekefa to maye Balogun,  Chief Adegboyega Adeniran  from agbaakin to Ekefa, and Chief Taiwo Oyekan from Aare Alasa to Agbaakin,

Others are Chief Raufu Eleruwere from Ikolaba to Aare Alasa, Chief Emiola Onideure from Asaju to Ikolaba, Chief Tirimisiyu Obisesan from Ayingun to Asaju, Chief Wasiu Ajimobi from Aare Ago to Ayingun, Chief Gboyega Mikail from Lagunna to Aare Ago.
