Two persons have been reportedly burnt to death, while three people sustained injuries in an early morning tanker explosion at Ilo Awela area of Sango toll gate on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.

The public education officer, federal road safety corps, FRSC in Ogun state, Mrs Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta

She explained that the incident occurred when the tanker laden with P.M.S was ascending  Ilo Awelalope adjoining Abeokuta– Lagos section of the expressway, fell and went into flame.

Mrs Okpe disclosed that men of  the corps carried out a rescue operation at about half past one this morning before men of the fire service were contacted and the area was cordoned to prevent secondary crash.

The FRSC public education officer who blamed mechanical deficiency for the accident, noted that a total of 12 vehicles involved,  comprised of three luxury buses, four tricycles, three motorcycles, one yellow bus and a tanker.

She added that two male adults and one female adult had been rescued to Ota general hospital, while the two bodies burnt beyond recognition had also been evacuated from the scene.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has sympathized with the victims of the petrol tanker explosion at Matogun, Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Kunle Somorin, Governor Abiodun described the tanker explosion that razed about ten houses and shops as unfortunate.

While thanking God that no life was lost in the explosion, the Governor expressed grief at the level of destruction of people’s property.

Governor Abiodun gave the assurance that work would be expedited on the rehabilitation of the Ijoko-Alagbole-Lambe-Akute road in order to forestall the recurrence of such incidents and to make the life of the people in the axis more comfortable.

The Governor also promised that palliative assistance would be rendered to those who lost their property to the inferno.

An unidentified male adult died when two tankers caught fire and exploded last night on Ijebu Ode- Ibadan expressway.

The accident occurred in front of NASFAT, according to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE.

The Public Relations Officer, TRACE, Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi said eyewitness accounts indicated that the driver of the first tanker loaded with premium motor spirit popularly known as petrol, lost control while speeding, fell into a ditch, and caught fire.

Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi explained that another tanker driver who saw the first vehicle on fire decided to help out, and in the process, his tanker also got engulfed by fire.

The TRACE spokesman said one person died in the inferno.

Mr Akinbiyi urged motorists to be careful around Ijebu Ode- Ibadan expressway or take alternative routes if they could.

Meanwhile, at the time of this report, operatives of TRACE, Federal Road Safety Corps, and policemen are on the ground monitoring the situation.

Oyo State Governor,Engineer Seyi Makinde has visited the Agodi axis of Ibadan, where a petrol-laden tanker exploded late on Thursday 18th November 2021.

Governor Makinde while inspecting the scene told security agents to restore normalcy to the area within 24 hours.

The incident had led the Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency (OYRTMA) to issue a traffic advisory to motorists plying the axis.

Governor Makinde expressed shock and sadness over the incident adding that the agency in charge of traffic control in the state should, as a matter of urgency, return normalcy and ensure free vehicular movement.

In a remark,the Commissioner for  Energy, Seun Ashamu stated that his ministry would ensure speedy repairs of the damaged electric poles.

Also speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of OYRTMA, Dr Akin Fagbemi, represented by the General Manager of the Agency, Mr Adeoye Ayoade, stated that officers of the agency have been deployed to facilitate free flow of traffic.

Nine people have been presumed dead while two persons sustained injury in a tanker explosion around odo seje,  Owode in Yewa South local government area of Ogun state.
The Spokesman of Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi who confirmed the statement in Abeokuta said the accident involved a truck loaded with PMS, a bus conveying eggs and four motorcycles.
Mr Akinbiyi explained that the loaded tanker detached from it’s tractor while descending Odo Seje slope from Owode, the bus was coming from Ajilete with other motorcycles ram into truck leading to fire explosion.
He said the victims of the incident had been released to their families for burial while the case had been handed over to Owode Divisional Police Station for further investigation.
While commiserating with the families of the victims, Mr Akinbiyi advised motorists especially tanker drivers  to always carry out adequate maintenance of their vehicles and give consideration to other road users.
