As parts of activities marking his 100 days in government, Oyo State Governor Engineer Seyi Makinde has commenced the distribution of free textbooks and exercise books to secondary school students in the state.

Governor Makinde while performing the symbolic presentation of the free books at the Executive Chamber, Governor’s office, Ibadan said the step became imperative for the students to excel in their academic pursuit.

The governor, who admitted that there was no big deal in the distribution of free books, said the state was going to the era when education was well planned and funded.

Governor Makinde explained that he was optimistic that the development would return the lost glory of the education sector in the state along with motivation of teachers and provision of conducive environment for learning.

He advised the students to face their studies as they are the future leaders.

Earlier, the state Commissioner for Education, Professor Daud Sangodoyin had promised that the state would not relent in its efforts at improving education.

Two of the students in an interview with Radio Nigeria, appreciated Oyo state government for the kind gesture.

The free textbooks consist of key subjects in secondary schools.
