The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammad Sa’ad Abubarkar, has called on Nigerians to respect and work for how ethnic diversity of the nation is managed for her greatness.

The Sultan made the call while delivering a public lecture to mark Ulefunta Festival in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

In a lecture entitled “Our diversity, a divine gift and blessing untapped: wrong path trodden and way to peace”, the monarch enjoined Nigerians to see the nations diversity as a strength.

The Sultan noted that many countries across the world had used their ethnic diversity to improve their people’s welfare, pointing out that the nation’s diversity should be seen as a blessing rather than a curse.

Alhaji Abubarkar at the Ulefunta festival marking the end of annual leave of the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi decried the upsurge of criminality in the country, and called on Nigerians to come together to fight the menace.

Also, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Micheal Ade-Ojo, observed that the country had been facing various security challenges in recent times, and implored Nigerians to come together to end the problems.

Earlier, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who received the Sultan in his office, encouraged Nigerians to start seeing each other as one regardless of ethnic, political or religious background.
