President Bola Tinubu will soon unveil a national value charter for Nigerians.

The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu announced this while addressing journalists during a working visit to Ondo State.

Mallam Issa-Onilu noted that the target of the national value charter was to bring back the forgotten core values, norms and revive the patriotic spirit of all Nigerians.

Our correspondent reports that the NOA DG who was at the palace of the paramount ruler of the Akure Kingdom, the Deji of Akureland, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi emphasized traditional and religious rulers’ involvement in the rebirth of lost values in the country.

He further stated that NOA would soon organise a workshop for traditional rulers in the country to get them actively involved in national affairs since they were the custodians of tradition and were closest to the people.

In response, Oba Aladelusi expressed delight with the national value charter implementation by President Bola Tinubu.

Oba Aladetoyinbo advocated roles for traditional rulers in the constitution.

The monarch also appealed for peace, unity, tolerance and dialogue among factions, and labour leaders in the country and expressed faith in a prosperous Nigeria under the present administration.

The highlight of the visit was a presentation of traditional attires and a national flag to the Deji of Akure.

Top directors of the National Orientation Agency led by the Ondo State Director, Princess Adelayo Adefolalu and chiefs in Akure Kingdom received the NOA DG, Mallam Issa-Onilu.

The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has expressed the readiness of corps members that will participate in the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo state to build on the impressive feat recorded in Edo state.

Brigadier General Ibrahim stated this when he paid homage to the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo in his palace.

The DG who led some management staff of the scheme to the Deji’s palace said the corps members had been briefed on the need to be professional in the conduct of the election and in accordance with their training in preparation for the election.

He however urged Ondo state residents not to be hostile to corps members as they are not indigenes of the state with any ulterior motives concerning the election.

He also commended the traditional institution for the hospitality given to corps members deployed to Ondo state. 

In a remark, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Aladetiyinbo who described political activities in the state as tense, expressed confidence that corps members used as ad hoc staff would help achieve a free and fair election in Ondo state.

The monarch also urged voters in Ondo state to put the interest of the state first in their hearts when casting their votes.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has appealed to the National Assembly to support the timely formation of community policing to end incessant crisis in the country.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu made the appeal at the passing out ceremony for the pioneer officers of Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps in Ondo State.

Governor Akeredolu who maintained that community policing had better understanding of their terrains and languages, said Amotekun Corps was formed to compliment the efforts of the conventional security outfits in the state.

Governor Akeredolu solicited the support of all and sundry especially the traditional rulers to achieve a crime-free society.

Also speaking, the Amotekun Corps Commander, Chief Ade Adeleye who retired as retired NSCDC Deputy Commandant General said the establishment of the corps was informed by daily increase of kidnapping, robbery and killing in the state.

Chief Adeleye who described objectives of the agency as security collaboration to assist the conventional security outfits within the South-West states maintained that the pioneer cadets had undergone prerequisite trainings for the task ahead to nip crime in the bud.

The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi and the Olugbo of Ugbo, Oba Fredrick Akinrutan who recognized government’s struggle to get the Amotekun in place expressed confidence that the prevailing insecurities in the state would be a thing of the past.

Equipment presented to the corps at the passing out ceremony which was well attended by security heads, religious leaders and traditional rulers as well as hunters, included vehicles, motorcycles, security equipment and dogs.

The Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo has called on the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, ODIEC, to conduct a credible and acceptable local government election come April 18.

Oba Aladetoyinbo made the call when he received members of the commission led by its Chairman, Professor Yomi Dinakin at the Palace.

The monarch who expressed confidence in ODIEC also called for more sensitization on the side of the commission especially through electronic medium due to the ravaging corona virus disease.

Earlier, ODIEC Chairman Professor Yomi Dinakin said the visit to the palace was part of the commission’s efforts of sensitizing the people on the importance attached to the council poll.

Professor Dinakin affirmed that the election would hold at the stipulated date of April 18 without hitch.

The ODIEC boss added that necessary measures are being put in place for smooth conduct of the election.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammad Sa’ad Abubarkar, has called on Nigerians to respect and work for how ethnic diversity of the nation is managed for her greatness.

The Sultan made the call while delivering a public lecture to mark Ulefunta Festival in Akure, the Ondo State capital. 

In a lecture entitled “Our diversity, a divine gift and blessing untapped: wrong path trodden and way to peace”, the monarch enjoined Nigerians to see the nations diversity as a strength. 

The Sultan noted that many countries across the world had used their ethnic diversity to improve their people’s welfare, pointing out that the nation’s diversity should be seen as a blessing rather than a curse.

Alhaji Abubarkar at the Ulefunta festival marking the end of annual leave of the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi decried the upsurge of criminality in the country, and called on Nigerians to come together to fight the menace. 

Also, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Micheal Ade-Ojo, observed that the country had been facing various security challenges in recent times, and implored Nigerians to come together to end the problems. 

Earlier, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who received the Sultan in his office, encouraged Nigerians to start seeing each other as one regardless of ethnic, political or religious background.
