No fewer than 259 victims has been rescued in Ojoo area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in an illegal correctional center owned by one Ismail Olore who claimed to be an Islamic cleric.

The one-storey building where the victims were chained and maltreated is located at the back of Olore Mosque, Ojoo Ibadan.

The Oyo State Police Commissioner, Shina Olukolu, who led his men to the scene of the incident, freed 34 females, 191 males, 11 children, and 23 mentally deranged who were detained and chained.

Inmates were detained for different periods ranging from 2 to 10 years regained their freedom today.

Mr. Olukolu in an interview with journalists at the scene of the discovery, said that 4 suspects have been arrested in connection with the illegal correctional centre.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion in Oyo State, Alhaja Fusat Ajoke Sanni, noted that the situation was very pathetic, but the state government is currently on top of the situation.

“We got a distress call in our office this afternoon, and we came immediately to the scene of the incident, we have make arrangements to evacuate some of them to the hospital, as well as our correctional homes.

It was gathered that the suspect had been previously arrested in 2007 for the same crime but were later released.

She said that the victims will be taken to rehabilitation centers in order to give them urgent medical attention.
