Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has warned internet fraudsters and hackers to desist from such acts or face five years jail term, ten million naira fine or both, as enshrined in the Cybercrime Act 2015 of the Nigerian law. 

NCC Zonal Controller, Ibadan Zone, Mr. Yomi Arowosafe gave the warning while speaking at training for secondary school pupils of Government College, Ibadan, an event marking the Safer Internet Day, organized by Oyo State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency, NOA.

While speaking on the topic “Positive and Lawful Use of the Internet”, Mr. Arowosafe who said there are global partnership as well as synergy with national security agencies on cybercrimes, explained that culprit of child pornography are also liable to face ten years jail term or twenty million naira fine, depending on the crime committed.

Also speaking, Representative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zone, Mr. Idris Sarumi warned internet users to verify every information to be true, legal and necessary before it is shared saying everyone would be responsible for every content posted or shared on the internet. 

Earlier in a welcome address, Oyo State Director, NOA, Mrs. Dolapo Dosunmu, represented by Deputy Director Programmes, Mr. Moshood Olaleye, charged pupils not to keep their online interactions secret from their parents as parents are in the best position to guide them rightly.

Over seventy pupils of the Government College, Ibadan, GCI, benefited from the safer internet training programme.
