Residents of Ibadan have lauded the Oyo State Government for taking up the initiative to shut down public and private schools amidst coronavirus threat. 

The residents made the disclosure while speaking with Radio Nigeria on coronavirus pandemic. 

The respondents said though, there was no confirmed case of coronavirus infection in the state, the government needed to put more preventive and maintenance mechanisms in place.

They, however, implored the public not to in any way politicized issues surrounding the deadly virus and mind the type of information they spread on social media. 

It would be recalled that as part of measures to contain the spread of coronavirus, Oyo State Government closed both public and private schools immediately till after Easter celebrations.

Governor Makinde made the disclosure this while briefing newsmen at Agodi Government House, Ibadan, noting that the state had set up Covid-19 Task Force due to heightened threat of the virus in Nigeria.

The governor equally said the result of the coronavirus suspect who was on self-isolation, was negative.

According to the governor, the development indicated that there was still no confirmed case of coronavirus in Oyo state.

On measures to curb the spread of the virus, Governor Makinde had said Emergency Operations Center and Diagnostic centre would be activated within 72hours hours.

The governor added that the new state free health mission and ongoing workers verification exercise had been suspended.

While promising the readiness of the government to update residents of the state on a daily basis on the COVID-19 promised the state was committed to the prevention, containment and control of the Coronavirus disease in Oyo State.
