Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has assured the state’s athletes of improved welfare packages.
Governor Makinde made this known in Ibadan while presenting cheques to the state’s athletes who won medals at the 2018 national sports festival held in Abuja.
Represented by the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Seun Fakorede, the governor maintained that the state had been investing heavily in sports development.
He noted that doors of opportunities had been opened for organizations willing to assist the government in sporting activities.
Some of the athletes in an interview appreciated the state government for putting smiles on their faces, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Correspondent, Olaolu Fawole reports that the cheques presented to the athletes varied from one hundred thousand Naira to three hundred thousand Naira, depending on the medals won at the 2018 National Sports Festival in Abuja, while the medical team and other officials were equally presented with cheques.
