Osun State Government says it has concluded arrangement to impose a week lockdown on Ilesa axis to contain the spread of community transmission of Coronavirus.

The state’s deputy governor and chairman Osun State Joint Taskforce on Covid 19, Mr Benedict Alabi, stated this in Osogbo at a meeting he held with representatives of various groups from Ijesaland.

Mr Alabi said the decision to lockdown the area was in line with NCDC directive.

The deputy governor urged Ijesha residents to accept the lockdown in good fate, saying it was for their benefits.

On his part, Osun State Commissioner for Health, Doctor Rafiu lsamotu said the recent cases of Covid-19 in the state were mostly people from Ilesha axis.

Doctor Isamotu noted that government had no option than to lockdown the axis to control community transmission.

Some of the stakeholders from Ilesha said they were pleased with the proposed lockdown but want government to provide palliatives.

The state is yet to fix date for the commencement of the lockdown.
