There are indications that the Governor Yaya Bello-led committee set up by the APC national leadership to conduct Ondo State governorship primary is set for the exercise. 

Governor yaya Bello had at a news conference in Abuja assured aspirants of level playing field in the decentralized indirect primary election that would take place in the 18 local government areas 

APC meeting put up by the national leadership chaired by Niger State Governor, Dr Abubakar Bello was held last week with aspirants to sort out some issues ahead of today primary election. 

Meanwhile, in the last one week, the media, especially the social media platform had been awash with campaigns in line with INEC’s directives which were against gathering of crowd as a result of COVLD-19 pandemic. 

Also on Wednesday this week, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is to hold primary election to determine its candidate.

Cathedral area of Akure the Ondo State capital where the All Progressives Congress, APC, State Secretariat is located has become beehive of activities of some sort. 

Interestingly the area, which spreads along the popular Oyemekun Road 15 host to campaign offices of most of the aspirants jostling for the party’s sole governorship ticket. 

Food vendors in the areas, printers, filling stations, hawkers of edible items and operators of public transport system including okada riders are predictable direct beneficiaries. 

Our team of reporters, who has been monitoring events in the areas in the last one week, reports that relaxation centre operators are not left out in benefitting hugely from activities leading to the primary election of APC holding today.

Correspondent Olumide Abudu says the international Conference Centre, the Dome, Igbatoro Road, Akure is the venue for centre for the conduct of the primary election.

Those jostling for the party ticket include the incumbent Governor Aakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Mrs Jumoke Ajasin-Anifowoshe, Mr Isaac Kekemeke, Chief Olayide Adelami, Chief Olusola Oke and Ambassador Olusola Iji.

Others are Dr Segun Abraham, Prince Jimi Odimayo, Chief Bukola Adetula, Mr Ifeoluwa Oyedele, Mr Akin Akinsehinde-Awodeyi and Dr Nat Adojutelegan 

However, few hours to the APC Governorship primary election, a frontline aspirant and the managing director of Niger Delta Power Holding Company ,Mr Ifeoluwa Oyedele has declared  support for the incumbent Governor, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and consequently stepped down for the governor.

Mr Oyedele reportedly met with Governor Akeredolu at the Government House and there after announced his decision to step down .

He then pledged his unalloyed support with a promise to work with the governor in the interest of state.

Mr Oyedele who disclosed that he was not influenced to step down encouraged other aspirants to unite for the party’s victory. 

His supporters were however shocked at Oyedele’s decision which caught them unawares.

In a response, Governor Akeredolu commended Oyedele for his sacrifice, saying his selfless interest would remain indelible in Ondo State political history.
