NSCDC, OYTRMA, Vigilantes, Takeover Traffic Control Duties in Ibadan
Officers of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency, OYRTMA, vigilantes and some individuals have assumed the position of traffic warden in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The officers assumed the position of traffic control following the absence of traffic wardens from their duties in the wake of #EndSARS protests.
This was to put an end to heavy traffic gridlock the city had been witnessing since Monday.
A visit to Oke-Ado, Challenge, Mokola, Ojoo, Dugbe and other areas of Ibadan showed that the officers despite not being in uniforms, were able to control the traffic.
A motorist, Mr Tajudeen Alabi said the officers were able to ease the stress that many motorists went through last weekend.
Reacting, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Oyo State, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi said the command withdrew the traffic wardens from the road during the #EndSARS protest in order to curb mob action from protesters.
Mr Fadeyi said now that normalcy has returned to the state, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Nwachukwu Enwonwu has begun the re-deployment of officers to the road to reduce traffic and other road mishaps.
The Oyo State PPRO called on members of the public to eschew violence and embrace peace for the betterment of the society.
