As Christmas and New Year celebrations approach, motorists always want to exploit the mood of the seasons to make maximum gain.

This desire often overwhelm their sense of responsibility as many of them disregard out rightly laid-down rules on safety on the roads.

Some of these drivers indulge in alcohol taking and any other substance that could give them superhuman strength to face the daunting task ahead of them.

There are those also who overload their vehicles, all in the bid to make extra money.

All these practices over the years have been responsible for increased accidents intra and inter-city, especially during festivities.

How can these problems be addressed?

Public Education Officer, Federal Road safety Corp, Oyo State Command, Mr Chijioke Inyanma identified causes of accident on the roads to include Human, Environmental and Mechanical factors.

Mr Chijioke explained that Human factors account for eighty percent of road crashes, hence the need to exercise restraint and patience on the wheels.

Similarly, Chairman, Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Riders Association, ACOMORAN, Oyo State, Mr Solomon Olugbode noted that accident increases poverty, and when people are mindful of the fact that they have families, and that it is necessary for them to return home safely, there would be less accidents.

Mr Olugbode counseled motorists to always consider other road users for sanity to reign on the nation’s roads.
