Public and private schools in Ogun State have resumed for the 2020/2021 second term academic session.

Radio Nigeria correspondent who monitored the resumption reports that teachers were seen at the entrance of the schools trying to check the students temperature and ensure they followed the covid-19 guidelines by washing of hands and use of face masks before being allowed entry into their classes.

Speaking in an interview, a head teacher, Mr. Lukman Afolabi of a private school along Abiola way, Abeokuta expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to resume another term despite the covid-19 pandemic ravaging the world.

Mr. Afolabi who frowned at some students’ non-compliance with covid-19 protocols, called on parents to take the pandemic seriously in order not to affect other students.

Also, some students including Seun Adebayo and Balikis Ahmedin separate interviews expressed the hope that the new academic term would be peaceful without another government’s directive to stop students from going to school due to the pandemic to allow them cover the syllabus.

They also urged the state government to put necessary measures in place by providing adequate materials, including nose masks, thermometer, standard hand washing equipment and functional sick bays for their safety throughout the academic session.

In a related development, Public and Private Schools in Osun State have resumed for the continuation of first term 2020/2021 academic session.

Radio Nigeria correspondent who went round major cities like Ife, Ilesa and Osogbo reports that most schools obey the Covid-19 safety protocols.

Students were supervised to wash their hands at the entrance with soap under running water while some administered hand sanitizers on students, parents and teacher as they enter school premises.

However, some schools took bold step as they sent students without face mask back.

A teacher, Mr. Funso Idowu expressed the school readiness to observe Covid-19 protocol saying safety of students should be prioritized.

Meanwhile, some parents have appealed to government to monitor schools to ensure they maintain adherence to Covid-19 safety
protocols.

The parents, Mr. Adewale Obisesan and Mrs. Lolape Afolabi made the call while speaking with Gold FM in Ilesa.
Mr. Obisesan and Mrs. Afolabi who said schools need government support in this period called on parents to teach their children safety measures on covid-19.

They also urged school authorities to reduce numbers of students in
classrooms and monitor them to curb the spread of the virus.
