Following the federal government directive that federal universities should resume today, scanty students at the University of Ibadan resume in completion of the 2018/2019 session.

Our correspondent, who monitored the situation at the institution reported that final year students were rounding off their project work while others were discussing their home stay experience as well as the havoc caused by COVID-19 and the nine months ASUU strike.

During visit to some of the hall of residence and lecture rooms, there were no facilities put in place in accordance with the COVID 19 safety protocols. 

In an interview, the president, Student Union Body, University of Ibadan chapter, Mr. Olusegun Akeju lamented poor preparation and funding of the University saying their future ambition were being traded with by government.

In the same vein , the immediate past Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Ibadan chapter, Professor Deji Omole and the current Chairman, Professor Ayoola Akinwole bemoaned the lackadaisical attitude of government to education funding , adding that his members had called off their strike on the 24th of December, 2020 but would not be allowed to be exposed to the danger posed by Corona Virus.

Radio Nigeria also gathered from  the Chairman, Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU, U.I chapter, Mr. Malachy Etim that the warning strike earlier suspended last week, might commence after a Congress of the Union slated for tomorrow.

Mr. Etim explained that a number of pending issues were yet to be resolved by the government federal government which he said might affect resumption should government failed to accede to their demands as well honour their 2009 agreement .

Some students, who spoke with Radio Nigeria, appealed to government to do the needful by meeting the demands of the unions and ensure adequate provision of facilities to prevent further itches in their academic pursue.
