A traditional ruler, Alapa of Okin Apá, Professor John Akintola has called on custodians of traditional values to ensure they instill values of Yoruba culture in their subjects.

He stated this while speaking with Radio Nigeria.

The traditional ruler who is a lecturer at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH Ogbomoso, said it was disheartening that the rich Yoruba culture was gradually going into extinction.

He identified the Yoruba culture as one which is all encompassing with unique ways of addressing issues.

“It is the duty of the traditional rulers and all the chiefs to promote and sustain our culture because it is very rich, it starts from the way we dress, greet and address people.

Undoubtedly, Western education has had a great influence on our culture but we are trying to bring it back by sensitizing our youths and upcoming generation.

Yoruba culture has guide on how to relate with the elderly and how to greet with regards to who they are and what they were doing”, He said

On the prevailing insecurity level in the country, the professor of entomology and pest management believed the government needed to be more proactive in manning all entrances leading to Nigerian borders.

‘”These herders we are talking about are not of Nigerian extraction, some are from Mali, Sudan and other West African countries. They are not traceable. The Federal Government should do much more to ensure that our borders are manned by our security outfits. until that is done, there is  little or nothing we can do”, He explained.

Professor Akintola also urged the government to seek help from developed countries in the areas of technology to track down criminals.
