Conference President, Ogbomoso Baptist Conference, Rev. Thomas Ojo has called on the public to obey the Federal Government’s directive on measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 rather than pay a fine, jail term.

Rev. Ojo made the call while speaking with Radio Nigeria on a health protection document stipulating penalties for defaulters of Covid-19 preventive measures signed by President Muhammadu Buhari

The cleric who differentiated between spiritualism and realism acknowledged that Covid-19 was real and still prevalent.

“I want to encourage you to follow the rules and obey what the Federal Government has said. It will not be good for anyone to be imprisoned and it will not be good for anyone of you to be paying the money you don’t even have. Let’s follow instructions and let be good children of God” He said

He urged all and sundry to comply with covid 19 safety protocols.

Rev. Ojo while recalling from the scriptures how pestilence and tribulations were subdued, urged Christians to seek the face of God in prayers, giving assurance that God would heal the land.

It would recalled that President, Muhammadu Buhari had signed the Coronavirus Disease Health Protection 2021 which made the use of face masks in public places mandatory among other measures to curtail spread of COVID-19.

The President signed the document in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 4 of the Quarantine Act, Cap. Q2, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2010 according to source.

The regulation stipulates that no person shall be allowed within the premises of a market, mall, supermarket, shop, restaurants, hotels, event centres, gardens, leisure parks, recreation centres, motor parks, fitness centre or any other similar establishment “except he is wearing a face covering that covers the nose and mouth; he washes his hands or cleaned the hands using hand sanitiser approved by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control; and his body temperature has been checked.

Any person found to have a body temperature above 38 degrees Celsius shall be denied entry and advised to immediately seek medical attention.
