The Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar the third has declared Monday the fifteenth of March as the first day of the Islamic month of Shaaban, one thousand four hundred and forty two years after Hijira.
A statement signed by the Chairman Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs Sultanate Council, Sokoto State, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, Wazirin Sokoto, says this followed a report by the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee in conjunction with National Moon Sighting Committee confirming the non-sighting of the new moon across the country after the thirtieth of Rajab which marked the beginning of Shaaban.
