No fewer than three persons have been confirmed dead while three others are being hospitalised in the Oke-Gada area of Ede North Local Government Area of Osun State as a result of an unknown ailment.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the affected persons were beggars who often stay around the area.

The community was thrown into confusion by the incident as some residents were suspecting food poisoning.

A resident who simply identified himself as Tade said about 12 beggars had been hospitalised while others died.

In a telephone conversation, however, the spokesperson of Nigeria Police, Osun State Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola dismissed the claim of food poisoning.

Mrs Opalola explained that Divisional Police Officer of Ede had visited the Seriki Hausa in the community who informed him that it was a Cholera outbreak and not food poisoning.

As at the time of this report, Radio Nigeria is expecting the reaction of the state ministry of health.
