As Muslim faithful prepares for the commencement of Ramadan, prices of consumable commodities have increased in Ibadan.

A survey by our correspondent revealed that the price of food stuff such as rice, beans, yam, maize and vegetable oil have increased.

A visit by Radio Nigeria to Bodija, Oja oba and Oje, revealed that a bag of rice most consumed by people which before is sold at twenty four thousand Naira is now sold at the rate of twenty eight thousand naira.

Two traders who did want their names mentioned attributed the increasing cost of foodstuff to high transport fare.

Speaking in the same vein, traders who specialized in the sale of vegetable crops such as pepper, tomato, onions and melons said increase in the prices were due to factors such as increased value added tax, reduction in the productive capacity of farmers and security crises.

Some customers and traders appealed to government to formulate and implement programmes that would cushion the effects of inflation in the country.
