Former Female Athletes Advocate More Support
Some former Nigerian female athletes have called on relevant stakeholders to come to the rescue of the nation’s female Athletes who have been neglected.
The former female Athletes made the call in Ibadan at the inauguration of Oyo state chapter of Association of former female Athletes of Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of the former female Athletes, state President of the Association, Olori Olajumoke Odeniran identified gender discrimination as a major menace confronting the nation’s female Athletes.
Olori Odeniran pointed out that for a country that has produced great female Athletes such as Chioma Ajunwa, Falilat Ogunkoya, Mercy Akide, Blessing Okagbare, the roles of the girl child were still being underated, especially in sports.
The retired FIFA badged referee said the Association would look into the welfare of both retired and active female athletes with the aim of developing them to greatness.
Earlier, Chairman, Oyo State Sports Council, Chief Gbenga Adewusi had expressed optimism that the inauguration of the Association of Former Female Athletes of Nigeria would correct the various anomalies militating against the involvement of the girl child in sports.
