The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, Ogun State Chapter wants the relevant authorities to sanction a medical doctor for allegedly beating up a female nurse in the line of duty.

Chairperson of the Association, Mrs Olufunmilayo Solarin who made the call in a statement in Abeokuta alleged that one Doctor Adeola Olowu assaulted a nurse on duty at the General Hospital, Ayetoro, in Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.

Mrs Solarin claimed that the nurse, Adeyemi Rashidat, had reportedly called on Doctor Olowu to attend to an emergency around 4 am on Saturday 8th January 2021 but was assaulted by the doctor who descended on her with slaps and pushed her to the wall for daring to disturb him over a patient’s situation which she could have handled.

The Ogun NANNM Chairperson maintained that the nurse had sustained an injury before being rescued by relatives of the patient and expressed her displeasure over the incident which she described as barbaric.

Mrs Solarin called on the relevant authorities to investigate the doctor’s irresponsible behaviour against public service rules and ensure justice for the nurse to prevent a recurrence of such aggression.
