Students Protest Plans To Rename LAUTECH

The Students Union Government (SUG) of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso have protested the decision of the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to rename the institution.

The SUG President, Anuoluwa Adeboye, and the Public Relations Officer, Gabriel Michael, in an open letter made available to newsmen on Friday, said renaming the institution would do more harm than good to its image.

According to IntelRegion, the union believed changing the name of the institution would negatively affect the ego and strength already gathered by the name.

It urged the governor to look inward and consider better recommendations on how the institution could progress.

Governor Seyi Makinde had during the week spoke of plans to rename the institution to Ladoke Akinola University to enable it to have an expanded scope that could accommodate more students in various fields of study.
