Oyo State Government has donated 58.58 Hectares of land and pledged the sum of 500million Naira for the construction of the Airforce base in Ajia Village, Egbeda Local Government Area of Ibadan.

Governor Seyi Makinde made the announcement of the donations while performing the official groundbreaking ceremony of the Base at Ajia, Ibadan.

Governor Makinde said that the Air force base will strengthen the security architecture within the South West region, thereby boosting the economy of Oyo state.

The Governor who noted that the base was part of the plan of his administration added that some infrastructural support would also be provided to the new Airforce Base

While appreciating the efforts of the security agencies in the State, Governor Makinde enjoined the people of Ajia community to be accommodating. 

 In a remark the Chief of Airstaff, Air Mashal Oludayo Amao commended the state government for the land to serve as permanent site for the Air force saying that with the establishment of the new base in Ibadan, the Nigerian Air Force would be able to extend her operational capacity to enhance internal security operations in the South-West region.

While pledging the loyalty of the Airforce to Nigeria, Air Mashal Amao appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for his continued support to the Nigeria Airforce especially in the area of capacity building and for consistently creating the enabling environment for the force to operate.

The 671 Nigerian Air Force Detachment was established in 1992  to provide operational support services to Nigeria Airforce aircraft operating in the South-West Region of the country and it also contributes to the Internal Security architecture of Oyo State.
