Team Oyo have finished second with sixty Medals at the first Para Games tagged ‘Abuja 2022’.


Chairman, Oyo State Sports Council, Chief Gbenga Adewusi made the disclosure on Friday at the MKO Stadium, Abuja during the closing ceremony of the Games.


According to the Chief Adewusi, Oyo Team emerged second in the final medal table, which was endorsed by the Games Coordinator, Mr Peter Nelson.

Team Oyo grabbed 24 Gold 15 Silver and 21 Bronze medals in the six day competition which was keenly contested by twenty one states of the federation.


The General Manager of Oyo state Sports council, Mr Gboyega Makinde led Toyosi Osawe, a para power lifter and other 120 athletes and officials of Oyo State to receive the trophy which symbolises the unique and outstanding performance of the team at the closing ceremony.


The chairman, appreciated the efforts of the Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde for the funding and provision of logistics that facilitated the participation of Team Oyo in the First edition of the Para games.


Director, Media and Communications of the sports Council, Mr Tunde Ajibike in a statement said Oyo State Athletes participated in Para Athletics, deaf sports, Canoeing, Para swimming, para table tennis, Karate, para power lifting and wheel chair tennis.
